Yes, it's true. Even the donkey meat is contaminated these days. The world is really going to hell in a handbasket when you can't even get pure donkey meat anymore. And now WallyWorld has had to apologize to the people of China for selling them donkey meat contaminated with fox meat. Well, I guess that's the risk they take when they resell donkey meat without carefully checking out their supplier first. One would think that the slaughterhouse workers would have noticed that one of the donkeys appeared to be incredibly puny, but maybe they don't have any uniformity standards.
The retailer said in a statement that one of its suppliers -- Dezhou Fujude Food Company Limited -- had produced and provided Wal-Mart China and other distributors with donkey meat containing fox DNA.

We should....but being donkey meat it would be a real pain in the a.. to keep in stock
To add insult to injury the fox meat was genetically modified and contaminated with gluten.....
Ok enough of the bad puns...
It is quite interesting what types of foods are sold throughout the world and considered normal or even a delicacy. I'm fairly sure I would avoid donkey or horse meat personally. In my past travels I have tried some pretty interesting foods though.

Dog is also on the menu in China. I could cope with a Fox/Donkey (Fonkey) burger if I was hungry enough but I might starve if my only option was Lassie.

Good one, Tex!
It said it was stepping up its food safety efforts by introducing routine DNA testing of easily adulterated meat products such as beef, mutton, donkey and venison.
They found fox DNA? How many critters do they test for?
Interesting stuff.

As is almost always the case in a situation such as this, someone surely filed a complaint, or investigators received a tip from a whistleblower. I kind of doubt that Walmart does that sort of testing on a regular routine basis, and I have a hunch that the statement about "stepping up its food safety efforts by introducing routine DNA testing of easily adulterated meat products such as beef, mutton, donkey and venison" probably refers to a relatively short-term program designed to determine the extent of current adulteration problems, and to scare off potential "copy-cat" risks.
Pork is by far the most popular meat in China, followed by poultry, and I see no reason why they couldn't be just as easily adulterated as any of the named meats. So why did Walmart choose to not even mention them? Beef and mutton are the third and fourth most popular meats, respectively. You don't suppose Walmart might be trying to keep pork and poultry out of the spotlight, because they are afraid of what they will find if/when they are forced to scrutinize them, do you?

I have a good friend from China. She will not eat ANYTHING that comes from China. She said; "You have no idea." I guess we should be grateful for our food safety standards. We have our own problems but they don''t compare to the stories my friend shares.
