supplements and LC

Post by rachdemots »

Have you found any supplements that help Lymphocytic colitis or, more importantly, make it worse? I gave up all supplements because I felt like something in the mix of what I was taking was making me feel worse, but I don't know what. What do you take?

I gave up all supplements. I do take betaine hcl due to low stomach acid and Vitamin D3 to help me heal. I get my supplements from Freeda due to my many many intolerances. I am doing well with the Freeda brand.

I take D3, B6, B12 and folate. These supplements have been part of my plan, although I did not start the B's until I was somewhat stable. I use Thorne and Pure Encapsulations, both so which have no offending ingredients.

I kept them all out until I felt a bit better. Now I take D, B, C and a combo pill of turmeric and ginger. Probiotics made things worse for me.

Leah,

I've been using the search bar and read somewhere you had abdominal pain and tender abdomen sometime in your journey and you suspected the magnesium or selenium to be the problem or some food you ate. What was it, did you find out?

I suffer from LC with C and magnesium suplement(free of soy, milk, gluten, egg, citrus, etc) has kept me regular like a clock even with all my damaged rectum caused by the C. My diet pretty much is now zucchini, salmon and some oils + magnesium supplement and this has kept my stomach flatter than a pancake (I used to have severe severe bloating) but I am now having left over stabbing pains randomly throughout the day in the right colon which are on scale one to 10...just 1 or 2. Sometimes it is tender to touch as well.

I consumed some eggs a few week ago to test (I reacted) and I also had some fruit(reacted again) but within this time I also started taking magnesium.

Do you think it's the supplement? Was it the supplement for you? What improved the tender abdomen you had before?

I appreciate your help ;)

My pain was nevert really "stabbing". Because I was always thin, it is very easy for me to feel ( by touch) and see when my right lower abdomen is inflamed and painful to the touch. This will happen to me when I eat something I probably shouldn't ( like tomato products) I don't have tons of gas any more, but when I do get some, I definitely know when it's gas pain. I don't know if the magnesium causes the inflammation, but when I took it, my stools were looser, so I stopped. Wish I could help you out more.
