So true, Tex. I can and do use medications when they help. I think we are truly lucky to live in an age where some effective treatments exist. One wonders how people did without some of our medications in the past. I wouldn't want to try it!

But it's great that the side effects of a healthy diet filled with whole foods--in the widest variety one can tolerate at any given time--are all good! I wish they would magically protect us from every ailment, but they are at least a tiny bit of control in an unpredictable world.

Another thing the doctor said that I found interesting is: "You eat the way people probably ate 200 years ago, but with more meat." I often feel I've zoomed back to colonial times during cooking.

Example: baked plums for dessert. They are delicious. Just wash plums, put in a covered baking dish, and they will create their own sweet sauce with no added sugar. The pits come out easily when the plums are fully cooked. Try with a bit of coconut milk and cinnamon.
