Hi All,
I've been continuing to have normans every day but am now having issues with increased urgency to urinate, excessive thirst, and swelling in my hands, feet, abdomen (I gained 6 lbs of fluid overnight that still hasn't gone away). Fast forward to blood test results and my potassium is dangerously low (2.5) and they ordered a 24 hour urine test to check my kidney functioning. I did a quick check on the archives but didn't find anything about this particular subject. Anyone else deal with these sorts of issues? I have a follow up this afternoon with my PCP.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having problems. Early on, I had problems with low potassium, but that was almost surely because of dehydration due to watery D. Since you have been having Normans, something else must be happening. Diuretics tend to deplete potassium, but obviously you're not taking a diuretic if you're having fluid retention. The data from the kidney test will hopefully illuminate what is going on.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Thanks so much Tex. My PCP is now thinking either Nephrotic syndrome or Diabetes. The saga never ends it seems. I get one thing under control and something else rears it's ugly head. It seems as though my low white blood count over the past year and other funky blood test results may have been pre-dromal indicators of this larger issue.
You're right about new problems showing up. It seems that after we get MC, we're kinda like an old car — as soon as we fix one thing, something else either breaks or wears out. 
At least you're finally getting some answers, and that gets you closer to starting a treatment program.
