Enterolab report

Post by Pat »

Well I guess I wasted a bunch of money. Enterolab told me that because of my IgA deficiency I may have false negatives. They were right. Here is my report:

C-1) Antigenic Food Sensitivity Stool Panel

Mean Value 11 Antigenic Foods 2 Units (Normal Range is less than 10 Units)

While all of the foods tested can be immune-stimulating, the hierarchy of reactions detected were as follows:

Food to which there was no significant immunological reactivity: Food to which there was some immunological reactivity (1+): Food to which there was moderate immunological reactivity (2+): Food to which there was significant and/or the most immunological reactivity (3+):
Corn
Oat
Rice
Beef
Chicken
Pork
Tuna
Almond
Walnut
Cashew
White potato
None None None

It didn't copy very well.. There was no reactivity to any of the foods. Now what? I have been eating turkey and zucchini and doing pretty well until today at lunch. Fortunately I go home for lunch and before I could get the front door unlocked I had a very big accident.

Pat,

I'm so sorry! You've been dealing with all of this for a long time! We all know where you're coming from! :)

Have you kept a food diary? I would pick a meat, and eat only it for 3 days, if it sits well, then add something else like rice for 3 days and see how you do. Keep this up until you have a core of foods that you haven't reacted to. Keep gluten, soy, dairy, & eggs out, too. Eat simply. I just use salt & pepper. I only eat 5-6 foods.

Leah will probably chime in because she has IgA deficiency, too. She has first hand knowledge.

Good luck, and keep your chin up.

Linda,
Thanks for the words of encouragement. I have done the MRT testing and rice is red. I think I react to everything. I am taking Pentasa but I may ask my GI for Entocort. I hate to take a steroid but I am getting desperate. I don't want it so that I can eat the things I know are bad but so that I can eat some good for me vegetables and not have accidents.

Pat,

That's a heck of a note, to say the least. Maybe there's a virus going around that contributed to the accident.

You may have the right idea though, with a maintenance dose of Encotort. At very low dosages, the risk of osteoporosis damage seems to be quite low, as long as offsetting measures are taken (such as making sure that your vitamin D and magnesium intakes are adequate), and possibly taking a strontium supplement if you should already have osteopenia.

It's pretty clear that a very small percentage of us have more sensitivities than even a very limited diet can fully accommodate. And while budesonide can't overcome major food sensitivities for someone in your situation, it certainly seems to be able to handle minor issues, so that at least some type of reasonable diet is possible. A little budesonide should go a long way toward expanding your diet.

Sometimes we gotta do what we gotta do, whether we want to or not.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Pat,

I can't eat rice, potatoes, nuts,....well, heck, I reacted to everything on Enterolab testing and more! I did MRT, too. I found 6 safe foods, and that's all I do while healing..... :( It's boring but manageable.
I can't eat any veggies! I react to them all! I eat meat, arrowroot biscuits, teff waffles, & sunflower seed butter muffins....I know it sounds strange, but it's slowly working for me.

How are you feeling today? Maybe Tex is right and it was a touch of the flu...it is that time of year.

It's not the flu. Not sick otherwise. I took some Imodium today and will until I can get into see the GI doc.

So Linda, tell me about the arrowroot biscuits and the muffins and teff waffles. Do they contain egg? I can't eat egg.
