Hi All,
It's been a long time since I've posted, so I hope everyone is doing well. For those of you who haven't seen me on here, my quick story is that I was diagnosed in August of 2012 with LC after a month of D. I followed the dietary guidelines on the board, did the Pepto Bismol, and by about November was in remission and have been ever since. I'm sincerely fortunate.
I actually think that the culprit for me was Zoloft, and hence my query here. What sent me into seeking that medicine was a history I have with melanoma -- all in situ so far, thank heavens. But I've had 3 in situs removed, with 2 of the 3 pointed out to my doctor by me. I feel like a ticking time bomb sometimes, and living between biopsies is a tough thing to do. About 2 months prior to my development of LC, my doctor suggested Zoloft. I actually quit taking it cold turkey when the D wouldn't go away, as I saw lots of posts about it and its connection to MC (which my doctors weren't aware of).
But now... I'm back with stitches in my leg from this afternoon, experiencing the odd dread-sort of feeling that people with a history of cancer "affectionately" refer to as "scanxiety." There is NO WAY in the world that I would ever try Zoloft again, but I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions. I'm just in a rough spot and don't know what to do.
Thanks for any thoughts, and happy healing to all.
My best,
Mary

Hi Mary,
I'm sorry that you're having to deal with melanoma, and it's certainly not surprising that it can cause anxiety. One of the "safest" anti-anxiety medications appears to be Wellbutrin (Butropion). It's claimed to work well with a minimum of side effect risks. And the members here who have tried it typically give it good marks. So far, no one has reported that it caused a relapse of their MC symptoms, either.
Please keep us posted, especially if you try it.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
