Pushing Through
I don't know about you all, but my greatest struggle with my health issues is fighting the discouragement that seems to always accompany setbacks and flares. For me, I also deal with side-issues like fatigue, flu-like body aches, yada, yada, yada. Anyway, I've been doing better intentionally, and determined to get physically fit. The road to fitness has been harder than I anticipated, so I've called in some reinforcements. :)

Yes, depression and anxiety are common satellite issues with MC, and only add to the stress, which can intensify all the symptoms. So exercise and/or relaxation techniques are excellent ways to take one's mind off the symptoms, and that helps to minimize the symptoms.Jennifer wrote:I don't know about you all, but my greatest struggle with my health issues is fighting the discouragement that seems to always accompany setbacks and flares. Fatigue and flu-like symptoms are very common with active MC, for many/most of us. We have to recognize and allow for the fact that most of our energy will automatically be diverted to our gut by our immune system, in an attempt to heal the massive damage done by the inflammation. That means that we typically have to set the bar a bit lower in our athletic endeavors, until we have a substantial amount of healing under our belt.
You're on the right track, and very fortunate to have a spouse who understands, and is willing to help. He's a huge asset to your recovery.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Thanks, Tex, and yes, I agree, I am quite fortunate to have such a wonderful husband. :)
Thanks, Linda. I went back to the gym last night to talk with a trainer. She's going to help me ease back into things gently, and she's going to help with pain management. Interesting, she has had similar issues. She also reacts very strongly to fructose, and has had to learn to eat again. In other words, she totally gets it. :)
