Will eating radioactive eggs turn me into a superhero?

Post by alcyone »

I'm guessing probably not.

My GI has ordered a gastric emptying test for Thursday morning to check for gastroparesis, and I'm a wee bit nervous since I haven't had an egg since September and try to avoid radioactive food in general. I don't know for certain that eggs are a problem for me, but when the latest flare came on in October I instinctively cut dairy, eggs, insoluble fiber, etc. out of my diet. He also told me I can't take my Pepcid that morning, so that in and of itself is going to make my insides bad tempered.

Is there anyone here who has had one of these done and can give me an idea of what to expect?

Thanks!

Hi,

I've never had that test, but I did sometimes have the symptoms of gastroparesis when I was reacting. It caused many miserable days of nausea for me. Sometimes I could even feel when my pyloric sphincter finally opened and began to dump chyme into my small intestine.

My belief is that this problem is somewhat common during MC flares, especially for those of us who have nausea associated with our reactions. After my MC symptoms were under control, the gastroparesis issues disappeared, and have never been a problem since then.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thanks, Tex!

I had never heard of gastroparesis before today, but it would go a long way toward explaining why just the act of eating makes me feel so bad. Hopefully the test won't mess my system up too much.

I ordered your book a few days ago, now I am wishing I had ordered it a week sooner - they told me I will be at the hospital for around 5 hours. I could have gotten a good chunk of it read.
