Lactose is the primary sugar in milk and anyone who has enteritis (intestinal inflammation) is lactose-intolerant because they are unable to produce adequate amounts of lactase enzyme until the inflammation subsides. That doesn't cause the production of antibodies, however — it merely causes poor digestion, resulting in the lactose being fermented in the colon by bacteria, producing gas, bloating, cramps and diarrhea.Golfingail wrote:Is dairy restricted because of the lactose? The main problem with dairy products is that most of us are sensitive to casein (the primary protein in all dairy products), causing the production of anti-casein antibodies by our immune system, and resulting in an autoimmune-type reaction similar to the reaction triggered by gluten.
Because of that, most of us react to all dairy products.
