Love my G.I. Doc

Post by Sheila »

I saw Dr. Stein, my G.I. today and discussed weaning off budesinide. When I told him I had finally weaned down to 3 MG every third day, he burst out laughing. Longest wean he'd ever heard of. He told me he would write me a new script if I felt I needed to go back on it. He also said that he didn't want me to continue on the low dosage, but if I wanted to continue with it, he wouldn't object. So, I decided to wean off totally this week. I am so excited to finally get off it and also nervous about a flare.

Doc Stein believes each patient needs to be treated individually, even if idiosyncratic, as long as the treatment works. When we discuss diet, he defers to what works for me. He told me he called all the local compounding pharmacies to find one that would compound budesinide for a patient who couldn't afford it. I just love him.

Because of occasional gastritis, he is testing me for H. Pylori.

Good for him! He's a shining star.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Good news Sheila ( weaning off the drug) . Just keep your diet as "clean " as you can during this time and you should be fine. I found that even after I weaned and I had a mini flare, it was short lived, so try not to worry.

Morning Sheila,

Well he is a keeper and is there any way we can clone him? Would love to have a doctor so open minded.

Love, Maggie

He sounds great, Sheila! I'm completing a very slow wean this week. For many reasons, I feel a slow wean is best for me and my doctor was supportive. My current dose is so low that I should not have any big surprises after getting off Entocort.

I hope all goes smoothly for you :banana2:

Good luck to you both Sheila and DJ on your weaning off the drug. Your doctor sounds wonderful! You're so lucky to have found him.
