Monique, it might be worth checking into nortriptyline...same family and mode of action as amitriptyline. While amitriptyline is at the top of the list for cholinergic side effects nortriptyline is at the bottom. I made the switch easily many years ago and felt dramatically better. While on amitriptyline I gained 15 pounds and felt like I'd had a lobotomy.

Jan,
thanks for that. I'll check into it. I am gaining unwanted weight too and I hate it. So far 5 more than I want in addition to the lobotomy ;-)
How much do you take? I take only 10mg of A. What's the lowest dose for MCrs?

thanks for telling me this. I am obsessed with my weight gain and concerned. I eat little so there is nowhere to cut. Exercise isn't doing it either.
Maybe it'll do the job without all the weight gain...I have stopped taking it a couple of times only to have to return to it within a couple of weeks.

that's why I take it. For the histamine intolerance. it keeps my gut quiet. I had horrific nausea and that is the only thing that helped.
I'll call the doc tomorrow, see if he'll go along with the program.

Hi Monique, Sorry to be late to your discussion. I had a similar problem with the MRT test results being opposite to Enterolab. Enterolab indicated no gluten, no soy, no eggs, no dairy. MRT was fine with gluten, soy and on and on. I remember Tex explaining the difference to me back then and Polly's explanation brings it all back.
I decided to avoid ALL reds on the MRT. Some of the yellows don't bother me and I eat a few of those moderately. Having been on budesinide for the past 2+ years! it was hard to know just how much was masked by the drug. I've been off budesinide for 6 days and no problems yet. I take Zyrtec at night and S. Boulardii in the a.m.
I'm so sorry you're still struggling with the same awful issues. Hopefully, some of the suggestions you got will help.

Monique,
I had really horrendous memory issues for about 14 months with this disease. It was so severe I honestly felt like I had a different disease from everybody else on this board. It took awhile to work thru things. I think my memory issues were mostly Mc related not from a drug interaction. In December I was working in Cleveland for two weeks in training classes. The classes were me age 52 and five guys that were all age 23 and under. We had homework and tests every day. I can report that I now have my brain functioning as well as a 23 year old male.

OK. I thought Amtryptiline and NORtryptiline were the same. I am on the latter. I am working on decreasing it by opening the capsules and pouring some out. I'm going really slowly.
I feel better knowing that they are NOT the same, and the latter is way less aggressive than the former.
Brandy, good for you! my brain is as good a 6 year old male - maybe. Not a 6 year old female. A male.
