Dentist

Whew..I 'm so glad the dentist told me I could stop the antibiotics. My gums have cleared-up and I won't need to take it unless it flares-up again. It will be interesting to see if my gut improves. It hasn't been too bad, but I have had D in the mornings about 2 out of 3 days. I can live with D in the morning....but not like the other day when I had to go at least 3 times in the afternoon! Luckily it was during my planning period!

The dentist also said that people with autoimmune problems sometimes build-up thickened walls in arteries....is that true? It sounded like he had done some research on the topic....he wonders if the low dose of antiobiotics would also help that sort of problem. He said he wasn't speaking as a doctor and he has no scientific evidence, but he's very curious about it. I love my dentist....I wish he was also my GI....Bye for now....JJ

There are some references available concerning the tendency of individuals with certain types of autoimmune disorders to develop arteriosclerosis, and subsequent cardiovascular disease. For example, SLE carries a relavively high risk of development of CVD, and rheumatoid arthritis carries an increased risk, though a lower risk than SLE. Here is a link with some current information:

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Having a good dentist makes all the difference doesn't it. I was not impressed with my new doctor here on my last visit. My previous dentists always took into consideration my other health problems and considered them when doing anything. Its so nice that your doctor took the time to inform himself/herself to be able to treat you better. I agree it would be nice to find a GI that does the same. Glad you could stop the anti biotics. It can be fairly easy to manage our lives if we only get the runs in the morning, but when it comes at other times, how do you plan your life around it??? It still is not the most pleasant thing to have to do in public, its not like it slips out of us quietl does it???? There are no quiet ways to go to the washroom, and if its sudden, there certainly is no time to check the washroom stalls to make sure you are alone??? Mostly its saying a quick prayer that we get to a toilet on time, any toilet will do, and to hell with anyone else being there. DEAL with it, is what I say. I'm the one sitting there, hoping that everyone leaves before I leave the bathroom stall, flushing it several times to hide the noise. Yeah, I know, we all have done it!!!! When I was really bad, I just wouldn't eat anything the night before or till I got home once again. That is not the best thing to do either, but at the time I didn't know any better, or why, like I do now.

Hope it gets better for you now that you are off the anti biotics too.

Gentle hugs
Wendy

Hey, thanks Tex....very interesting information. My dentist was surprised that the antibiotic seemed to make my D worse...I think he thought it would help. I explained that many of us have problems with antibiotics....what a complex problem we have...sigh.

Wendy, thanks for your comments too. This darn CC can really be the pits! I am just praying that when I call my GI after the first of the year, he doesn't try to take me off Entocort all together. The 2 caps a week seem to be something I can live with, but.... 3 x week was better...and Norman was around a lot more.

Well, Nite nite...I need to eat something. I've been on the phone with ski school business. Only 2 weeks away! Yikes!

Good article, Wayne!

Our type of immune response always seems to do a number on endothelium tissue that seems to line so many of our bodily organs, including the lining of the gut, of which the mouth is a part, but also, the lining of the cardiovascular system, including the arteries.

It's about time that the inflammatory aspect of this condition in the arteries was getting it's due attention. Saturated and other bad fats just doesn't tell the whole picture -- another good reason for removal of any "allergens" one might be able to discover, I would think -- to cut down on the immune reactions. Also, the oxidation part is something that I've been personally ignoring of late, so think this will act as a reminder to get back on the antioxidants, and drink green tea by the pot instead of by the cup from now on! Haha!

My gums have improved greatly since off the "allergens," so, hopefully, that means that there's also less inflammation inside the arteries. My mom actually had a BETTER "injection fraction" on her last heart ultrasound than she did a few years ago, which makes me wonder??? Hmmm???

My biggest problem is not being able to get out and walk for exercise like ah used to be able to due to needing to watch Mom closer.

Jill,

Did you remember to get yourself on a good probiotic? It's not too late to do that if you haven't yet. I recommend a refrigerated one at the health food store, especially a milk-free one, but if you're not off of all dairy, then you could find out which yogurts are "live-culture" and eat a bunch of that each day, I suppose. Remember, not all the popular brands at the grocery store are "live-culture." Perhaps someone here will know of some good brands in your area. If not yogurt, then perhaps buttermilk would help.

I'm sooo afraid of needing something that will require me to take antibiotics again. Been over three years since had to take one, and now, it's hard to find one in an antibiotic family that I've not had varying degrees of allergic reactions to. One's that are left more easily can lead to C-diff, particularly if I don't take a probiotic.

Take care, and don't forget to floss!
Yours, Luce
