Hi Tex, A French study that concluded last year found the FSHD was caused by mitochrondrial dysfunction from reactive oxygen species. In both FSHD-1 and FSHD-2, it is a zinc- chromatin malfunction in the DNA They found that by taking four supplements and increasing anti-oxidant foods will stop the progress and will improve muscle strength by 11%. They did a study with 54 patients. Researchers have found that there is a toxic protein that is produced and causes the atrophy. That raises the question " does that evoke a immune system response ". They have found that this happens because the innate immune is suppressed and the DNA is hypomethylated. That helps explain why some muscles are affected and others are not, because not all muscles will be hypomethylated. Jon

Hi Zizzle, Interesting. I have found research that 150 people with ALS were tested for Lyme disease in Florida and they all were positive. A doctor from New York also tested ALS patients and 80% were positive. He found that the bacteria from Lyme disease absorbs mercury and gets into the spinal fluid and effects the neurons that help control the digestive tract. I agree with you if the NIH released a statement about the dangers of lyme disease and mercury in the dental fillings panic would ensue. Do you ever investigate why Conn. has the highest incidence of Lyme disease? Jon

Jon,
Based on your points mentioned above, clinician diagnostic tools need to change?
And that would then cause upheaval with the whole big pharma medical system treat the symptom not the cause?

Hi Gabes, There needs to be change in the medical community from a drug-sympton philosophy to finding the cause of the disease. They treat any side effects from the first drug with a second drug and when a side effect starts with the two drugs a new drug. I know from experience. Jon
