Hi everyone,
I am new here and recently diagnosed with collagenous MC after over 1 and a half years of varying degrees of diarrhea misery. My GI doc encouraged me to try budesonide. I am currently taking 3 3mg capsules every morning. He said it usually starts to help in about three days. Okay, I know I just took my third dose today but I am very discouraged as my D was worse today than its been in a while. I had D yesterday once in the morning, felt great ALL day but woke up feeling sick to my stomach in the middle of the night and took tums. Felt better in the morning at first then after taking meds with a little food and coffee, (coffee has been okay with me lately as long as I don't over indulge), got bad D several times and had a slight unusual tummy ache after that. Could this be the med, can it make you worse before better? And oh yes, can it give you nightmares?

Hi Annie,
Welcome to the board. It's possible for budesonide to cause symptoms, but usually they are more likely to be neurological symptoms, and it would be rather rare for it to cause increased D. It's more likely to cause constipation.
I don't know about Wisconsin, but there is a lot of norovirus going around here in Texas that tends to cause symptoms similar to what you described. Maybe you picked up a virus. If it's a norovirus, it should be gone in a couple of days.
On the other hand, budesonide can indeed cause sleep issues, such as nightmares and difficulty sleeping, and it can also cause confusion, irritability, mood changes, and depression. So if you have noticed sleep issues, it's certainly possible that they could be caused by the budesonide. If it is the cause of the symptoms, it's not impossible that the symptoms might diminish after a few more days, but it's more likely that they will either stay the same or become worse.
Again, welcome aboard, and please feel free to ask anything.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Re: Generic Entocort-budesonide
Hi Annie and welcome to the board. It took over a week for Entocort to work for me and it was a godsend so be patient. I had very few side effects as well.anniet112 wrote:Hi everyone,
