Has anyone else here tried the SCD diet/lifestyle?

Post by healthydesire »

Hi all, I am on my 10th day of following a 6 week meal plan on this diet. It is similar to Paleo but not the same. I've noticed a whole lot less symptoms. While the meal plan is pretty bland, ex: carrot and chicken soup, is just that, I don't find myself cramping, bloating and having constant diarrhea anymore. Yea! A lot of people with IBS and IBDs follow this diet. I like it better than Paleo because there are many emails from the SCD folks to help you and support you. I know it took many years to get to where I am and it will take many years to heal.

I am new to this forum but feel like I'm at the point of needing more support in the IBD community. So here I am. I'm tired of being alone. :pigtail:

Glad to hear you are feeling better, sounds like you are at a basic level on the diet and the changes you made are helping. Introducing new foods one at a time over a period of 3 days, to see how you react, is usually suggested on this forum.

I did follow the SCD over a period of several years, and had mixed results. However, when I dropped the dairy, eggs and almonds from my diet 6 months ago, and really watched out for gluten cross contamination I got my best results. I found out that I was sensitive to those foods, which I was eating a lot of every day, through the Enterolab test.
The SCD diet does not necessarily help you find your food sensitivities, keeping a journal and looking for trends in how you are reacting to foods, or doing the Enterolab tests, can help sort things out.
Several others on this forum have followed the SCD, perhaps they will chime in.

dfpowell, thanks for the advice. I've learned that pears, at least with the skin, give me a bad reaction. I'm fine with eggs but not dairy. I had the lab tests done to prove that. I got bored as all get out with the six food choices I've been living on for nearly 2 wks and last night had a burger with tomato slices and pistachios. I felt fine. I think my biggest enemy is my love of coffee. I'm trying to slowly wean off it. I know it's a bad romance:)
