Hi again,
Calcium loss from the bones is pretty significant, and I've been really bad about taking supplements, so have been ordered back on them.. pronto, so will start being faithful at that.
Also, have been ordered to start walking an hour a day, and radiologist said that I couldn't continue taking care of Mom if I didn't walk an hour EVERY day, also weight lifting.
Welp, only way I can see doing that is if I join a local fitness place, and take her with me. Local hospital has a Wellness Center that MIGHT be a good place cause want somewhere where can get a PT consult as well as someone to help with the exercises. Once I took Mom to one of their PT places, and the lady who helped with her therapy was not only a PT, but also a master degreed exercise physiologist. She used that more on her second job at some fitness place. Wish she were still there!
Sis had hers when I had mine while bil sat in waiting room with Mom. Also, had our mammograms while there.
Apparently the place where the problem is now all the way up to the osteoporosis level is at the top of the femur, so I was instructed NOT to fall AT ALL!
My spine shows its greatest calcium loss at the lumbar level.
However, the radiology doc said that both my sister and I have beautiful bones. Go figure! It was kind of funny -- she had my sis come in while she was still looking at my BD on the computer screen thingie. She laughed, and said that my sis had the exact same looking ligament structure in our lower backs. Guess everyone's don't look like that.
Anyway, after telling us that sort of straight forward, she said, "That's so cute!" Sis and I both laughed out loud when she said that. You would have to have been there. Apparently, this is common among siblings to have analogous features like this. Guess our ligaments are as individual as our faces..hmm, but how many people get to appreciate that? Haha!
Good part is that she says that this is fixable with calcium increase, so I'm now officially motivated to be faithful to this program.
Think we're supposed to recheck the bones this time next year to see if all this supplementation and exercise pays off.
I passed my mammogram, but she just did an evalutory (is THAT a real word??) ultrasound where I had some tissue that was a little too dense to see with x-ray. It was on both sides. Opps, just remembered, I need to wash that stuff off!
Sister wasn't so fortunate on her mammogram, so will post that separately.
By the way, read that post by Barbs et al about their osteoporosis meds. Sounds as though you guys have complicated situations.
Yours, Luce
