A nearly instant response
I continue to do well with my MC by just eliminating gluten. About the only time I still have issues is in restaurants and the response is almost instant. Usually I have to get to the bathroom before I leave. Last night we went to Red Lobster where I had the crab, baked potato and the salad. I barely made it to the bathroom. I suspect it was something in the salad dressing. My question is why do I respond so quickly? From info here it seems most people react hours later. What could be happening to cause this response? TIA Deb
Deb,
That has to be an IgE reaction. IOW, it's the same type of reaction as a classic allergy response, except that it occurs in the digestive system, instead of in the respiratory system and/or the skin. It would be interesting to see if a fast-acting antihistamine would help in a situation such as that. It surely wouldn't act fast enough to stop the first wave (unless you took an antihistamine before the symptoms started), but it might help to minimize any subsequent symptoms.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
