Merry Christmas, Everyone

Post by Momster »

Hi All:

As I'm sure many of you are, I've been busy with getting ready for Christmas. Had a funny thing happen yesterday. I was multi tasking, doing laundry, getting bills in order, wrapping presents and making shortbread cookies. Well, I got the cookies done and took one to John (the good guy was finally finishing the renovations on the ensuite). He took one bite and spit it out very quickly!!! I discovered I had put baking soda instead of corn starch (1/2 a cup full) and they tasted awful!!! Well, I'm trying again today and this time will be sure to pick the right box up and read it carefully. Anyway, that's a first for me and gave us a good laugh after John was able to bet the terrible taste out of his mouth, which he did with the last bit of cake he had from Peggy's birthday (he says thanks, Peg).
We took my Aunt out for dinner last night. The poor lady is getting so crippled up with Osteo she could barely walk last night and had quite a time getting into the van. She sure is tough, though and really works hard at staying mobile. She still goes out for walks as often and far as she can and exercises regularly and keeps her spirits up. I admire her a lot. Anyway, we enjoyed her company last night and had a lovely dinner.
Well, I guess I better get to those shortbreads - wish me luck.

If I don't get a chance to get back here before Christmas, all the best of the season to you and hope you have a wonderful holiday with your family and friends.

Love - Momster

That is too funny about the cookies.....good thing you had a taste tester!

My friend at work brought in brownies for a birthday once and we all took a bite and they tasted AWFUL! Instead of putting just regular oil she grabbed her bottle of garlic oil. We all got a good laugh and still give her a hard time about it.

I am off to make cookies as well........hopefully without incident!

Hugs

I guess I'm not alone. Anyway, I made a successful double batch of Shortbread cookies today and they passed John's test (several times).
Tomorrow is the pumpkin tarts, butter tarts and Saturday is apple pie and John is going to make his famous tortierre (I think that's how it's spelled).
Anyway, crisis over.
We had some friends over for a Christmas visit tonight and that was nice and the next few days will be more relaxing because we also got the grocery shopping out of the way.
I LOVE Christmas and mostly sharing the time with my family and friends.
That includes all of you.
Have a wonderful holiday.

Momster! How funny :). My mom has left salt out of bread numerous times...its amazing what a difference that 1/4 teaspoon or whatever can make!

Enjoy your Christmas, but don't work too hard!

I finished my tree skirt. I'll post a pic later from home.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Years to you Momster!

Glad you made it through the "Craft Season" relatively unscathled. It was a rough one for me, so now it's just time to hunker down and hibernate during the next couple of dark months. At least our days are getting longer now and we are gaining like 5 seconds a day, but the dark still gets to me. My light box helps.

Have fun with your family and friends! HAPPY NEW YEARS TOO!

Love,
Joanna

Hi Momster,

I am sure anyone here who is a baker or cook has made at lease one mistake or two on ingredients.

You sound like you are having a great holiday season and I honestly have to say I envy you. Work has just been a killer but it all ends today and then 3 days off to just relax and do nothing. Would love to have gone to England to see the family but that is just too cost prohibitive.

I think Frank and I will just drink some wine, smoke cigars ( I am probably quitting soon) and generally relax.

Love to you and yours, Maggie
