Also, I did read that one of the side effects of MSM is diarrhea, so of course if I notice an increase in that, will stop. Diarrhea or constipation are also listed as side effects for glucosamine.

I have a hunch that the list of medications that do not carry the possibility of causing either diarrhea or constipation (for some users) is mighty short. That probably applies to supplements, also.

This morning, in addition to knee pain, I woke up with back pain.

I'll give it a few more days, but it's certainly beginning to appear that I will soon be resuming taking glucosamine sulfate.

I gave up taking glucosamine chonroitin because Celebrex was working so well and the glucosamine pill was huge and hard to swallow. With pretty severe OA, I was prescribed a combination of voltaren and DMSO, brand name "Pennsaid". This worked much better than voltaren gel alone. The DMSO transports the voltaren to the affected area much more efficiently. It is very expensive and for about a year my doctor would give me samples. I finally bit the bullet and ordered it from Canada at a dramatically better price.
