Balsalazide

Post by maestraz »

Hi folks,
I haven't heard too much about Colazal/balsalazide use on this site, but my doc did prescribe it after I weaned off of generic Entocort. I took it for a good while.

Once I determined that mast cells were, in fact, an issue for me, I started taking an antibiotic each day, and use Betaine, with very favorable results. I then started to decrease the balsalazide, and have now finished with it. There has been no impact whatsoever from letting it go, just as there was no impact from letting probiotics go.

I am now down to only a couple of meds, which are not related to the LC. I plan to wean off of one more of those (generic Wellbutrin) this spring.

My mantra has become, less is more, and my docs are in agreement with that. I do continue to take the following on a daily basis:

B-12 oral supplements
D-3
Krill oil
Multiple-vitamin
Calcium
Anti-histamine

I also get a monthly B-12 shot, although, strangely, B-12 has been in short supply the last stretch of months. I just managed to get 3 months worth by prescription at my local CVS after my doc hasn't been able to get it since before Christmas.

Good for you! I agree, less is best. ( and I am assuming you meant to type "antihistamine" and not "antibiotic" when you said you are taking it each day)
I hope everything continues to go well for you.

Leah, yes, anti-histamine, not antibiotic. Bad on me, a former English teacher, for careless proofreading!
