My journey with LDN, Cortisol, thyroid med, and diet

Post by Pat »

So I started NP Thyroid, a natural pig thyroid, and of course had water D. I freaked out and called the dr afraid I was intolerant to something in the inactive ingredients. I think I am intolerant to everything!!!! He called back and said I should stop the thyroid med and start LDN, 3mg, which I did and then restart the NP Thyroid a week later. Which I did. I do seem to be better but then its only been a little over a week on the LDN. I sleep ok as long as I have done some exercise which for me right now is walking or yoga. I have added in some rice and potato. I was starving on turkey and zucchini only. My brain needed more carbs! So far having mostly soft piles. Which is an improvement! Then there is Cortisol. I have been on Cortisol for 3 months. Looking at the info in Stop the Thyroid Madness book hypothyroidism can cause malabsorption problems especially with adrenal fatigue. She goes into enormous detail and I am trying to wade through all of that. She states that people with low cortisol need to be on at least 20mg and I am on 10mg. I think it just takes time and I am so impatient. I want results now! We will see where I am in another week.

Thanks for listening.

Hi Pat,

Sorry to hear that the NP Thyroid didn't work. That's a heck of a note. Apparently our systems operate on a fairly delicate balance between all of the hormones involved in regulating everything.

It does sound as though you might be making some progress with the LDN though, so that's encouraging. Hopefully that will eventually allow everything to work together smoothly.

Thanks for the update.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I don't know that the NP Thyroid didn't work. I think maybe I am/was so intolerant that anything was going to stir things up. This week I started on it again and so far so good. We'll see.

I've been on LDN for almost 30 days and I am better but not normal yet. I asked my GI doc to up my 3mg dose to 4.5 and he approved it! Hopefully that will help even more! I also have been on cortisol and NP Thyroid. Today I met with my internist after having blood tests last week. All the tests were normal and in a good range! He tested my D3, B12, Iron panel, a whole metabolic panel and magnesium. He thinks the thyroid med may also help my MC. He said my tissues need time to heal after being deficient for so long. I have had hypo symptoms for a long, long time. He will retest my thyroid in another month. I sleep pretty well but I do take zinc and Melatonin at night.
