question about mucus

Post by Leah »

I was wondering…. I'm feeling pretty well ( solid BM and such), but I'm curious… I had a large salad last night. I know that eating fiber bangs up against the walls of the intestines and the response is mucus. If I still had a solid BM this morning, but there was also mucus, is that a BAD thing?

Thanks

IMO it depends on whether you believe that fiber is good for health. Realistically, as long as your BMs don't significantly deteriorate in the near future, or any adverse symptoms show up, then there shouldn't be any reason for concern.

Personally, I consider mucus to be a sign that the body is trying to protect itself from some adverse event. When we have a respiratory allergy, it causes bronchial/nasal/esophageal congestion/mucus. The same thing happens in our digestive tract when an adverse event occurs. But this is just my personal opinion, and it's contrary to the opinion of virtually all health "experts" (except for Dr. Eades, friend of Loren Cordain, and paleo diet blogger).

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
