Newbie Leftovers junkie!Am I shooting myself in the foot?
OMG . I live on leftovers? After reading thru some threads this morning I am wondering if I should be freezing my leftovers immediately after cooking then microwave right from the freezer. Yikes. Hope I am not sidetracking my progress. I had no idea this could be a problem... I learn something every day form y'all. Thankful I found you to guide me through my MC journey!

I am thankful for my struggle because without it I wouldn't have stumbled across my strength.

Many of us have to follow that method (freeze, and then thaw and reheat just before eating), in order to keep from having mast cell problems. This doesn't apply to everyone here, but it's beginning to appear that unless we look for the problem, some of us may be having it without even realizing it.
I thought that I was immune to that problem, until I kept some chicken soup longer than a day or so. Some foods are much more prone to causing this problem than others. In general, the foods that are listed as high-histamine foods tend to fall into this category. Of course some high-histamine foods are inherently high in histamines at all times, but most only get that way after they "age" a bit.
For example, bananas are considered a high-histamine food. However, the histamine level is not a major issue until the banana ripens. After it begins to ripen, the problem increases every day. IOW, over-ripe bananas have very high histamine levels.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
In future, I will freeze leftovers immed. & microwave right before consuming. Anything I can do to improve my odds of staying healthy is a great bonus. It was a great weekend...had one WD sat morn. & have had no BM since and have had no discomfort. I'm down to one capsule Metamucil with each meal. I went to the "woman's show" today and packed chicken&sweet potato with me in ice packed ziplock bags. It worked well.
Love ya all lots for all the trials and pain you have gone through to learn all this and how caring and generous you are to spend the time, share your stories and advice. You're more help than any doctor I have ever seen and get paid nothing.
There is a great place in the hereafter for those that do for others expecting nothing in return. Hugs

A hint for the freezing and identifying...
Get a chinagraph pencil, it is oil based and will be ok in freezer on plastic containers /Tupperware.
It will wash off the container/lid if you use a soft scoured and cream cleanser
This way, you can write what is in the container and the date. With foggy brain a common event, removes the mystery!!!

Is it too much physical stress to exercise regularly through my MC journey. I have been riding a recumbant bike 5miles a night since my diabetes diagnosis and jan.25 we bought an Occtane elliptical. I have been using elliptical(30min) in afternoon & riding my bike 5miles(25min) in evening, only on days when I am not in pain or runnin to the loo all day!
Gabes... I call my menopausal brain lapses... CRS ---Can't remember $(-)! T
My diabetes DX was my wake up call to be proactive. I must be my own health advocate!

Hi Heady. I exercised all through my recovery, but I listened to my body. If I was tired or felt dehydrated, I would take it easy. Otherwise, I think it's great that you are exercising regularly. It's a great way to help regulate your diabetes. Just stay hydrated :)
I use masking tape and a sharpie on all my leftovers.

Hi Heady and
You are a "quick study" and already seeing progress. Good for you!
Like Leah, I exercised throughout my recovery and think it really helped. I lift weights as well as do aerobic exercises. Did you know that weight-lifting is the best exercise for diabetics/pre-diabetics? It facilitates the entry of sugar into the cells (and out of the bloodstream) better than aerobic exercise.
Also, your change in diet should help the diabetes, if you will be eating more protein/fat and less carbs.
Best of luck on your path to health!
Love,
Polly

The bulk of my diet pre MC was veg. and meat with only an icecream scoop of starchy carb. I was only eating one apple a day.my post meal BG testing is always under 7. My 12hr. overnight BG level is about 5.5. my salad is only food item I "desperately"miss on this quest for remission. I plan to eventually phase out the starchy carbs as I don't enjoy them! I have been using small 3lb.weights doing some arm reps daily since my DiabDX. Our new(jan25)occtane elliptical came with resistance bands so now that I'm starting to gain some energy I will get to trying them out. I appreciate all the great advice I am receiving through my MC journey. It has made this journey progress quickly.

Nice to know there may be salads in my future. I may go buy a lotto ticket..... I am feeling lucky.lol
I haven't had a BM since sat. morn.... Should I be concerned? I feel fine... No discomfort so far. I am presuming that I may be the type that tosses between D & C. Pre MC DX I went like clockwork every morning my whole life. My poor body is sooo screwed up.

I wouldn't be concerned yet, but if you don't go soon or if it is uncomfortable when you do, then you might need a bit more fiber in your diet. There are a few here on this site who have that issue. I'm not one of them…. but if I had that problem, all I'd have to do is eat a whole serving go fruit! That would definitely do it :)

Funny my 21yr.old son told me to enjoy a shooter for the elderly... Prune juice! Lol...If I don't go by tonight I will try a piece of fruit. Wouldn't want to make diverticular disease worse by being constipated:-(
