Sending Big HUGS and positive thoughts to you Marliss. So sorry you're dealing with so many stressors. I'm afraid that I"m going to be in the same boat with my 89 year old dad who lives alone, although he's only 30 minutes away. I hope things settle very soon for you.

I'm sorry I took so long to update. The bleeding (if that's what it was) has stopped, or pretty much stopped The output is back to orange, with dark brown once or twice a day. I wondered if it was actually bleeding, because sometimes it seemed a dark green rather than a black, which would indicate malabsorption. Big surprise, lol. But thanks, Tex, with the information about the upper gastric bleeding. I had pyloric stenosis when I was born, so even though there is no pain, it may not be exactly right in there. That is, on top of the likely celiac disease, of course.

The flare as a whole is winding down, and decreased remarkably yesterday after I purchased my ticket home (YAY) for next Thursday. Things seem under control enough here for me to leave my father with someone coming in once or twice a day. If he lets her... I realize that I just have to let Dad be Dad. It's no reflection on me if he shortens his life by choosing not to do the things that he should do to increase his quality/quantity of life. Coming to the realization, or starting to, may also be instrumental in lessening the flare.

As to purely physical reasons I am getting better, two things may be helping: I handle gluten every day and decided I would pretend it is arsenic. This means I don't eat a perfectly-fried sweet potato chip if it falls from the pan onto the board where I might possibly have laid the knife I used to spread butter on a glutenous item. The other is that the Allegra/Zyrtec I started taking every day about 10 days ago may be kicking in, finally.
