FODMAP DIET?

Post by suzanne »

Do any of you know about this diet or use it? There was just an interesting study reported in Scientific American

http://www.scientificamerican.com/artic ... -for-real/

Be sure to listen to the audio report

I don't tolerate FODMAPS. I am fructose intolerant and was dx by hydrogen breath test.

I am a diabetic so I rarely eat fruit!

I am thankful for my struggle because without it I wouldn't have stumbled across my strength.

What are you willing to let go of so you can live the life you know you deserve?

I looked at the diet and realized I am already on it with DF GF SF EF except for avocados.
I can't eat some of the things allowed (raw fruits & veggies).

I tried a low-FODMAP diet before I was diagnosed with LC. I found it helpful. Helped reduce explosive D.

But, being GF, EF, SF, DF, low-FODMAP was only helpful, I kept losing 2-3 lbs a week. I guess you could say it kept me out of the hospital. Until Endicort, I was in very bad shape.

Going to continue the above diet though. I do think it is helpful in long term healing.

Anyone find onions really bad? According to this link on FODMAP diets onion are the worst offenders.

Diagnosed April 2014, after losing 50 lbs. in 6 months.
Delzicol April 2014 (no effect, after 3.5 weeks-removed)
Endicort April 2014 - helping, but still losing.
Pepto-Bismal 9 a day - May 2014
Thankful for support!

I couldn't tolerate onions back when I was recovering. They work fine now, though.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Many people have problems with onion and garlic, but I have always been able to eat them as long as they are cooked. FODMAPS is only a part of the diet that may work. We all have to play with the food thing and see what works for us…. but the less you experiment at the beginning of your healing journey, the better. Proteins, cooked veggies, maybe white rice, maybe potato, sweet potato…..
