MRT results, should've saved my money it seems

Post by MarthaE »

Got my results back from MRT testing and it says I'm not reactive to dairy or sweet potato and I just wish it were the case. I blow up like a bullfrog when I eat sweet potatoes and dairy is definitely out. Oh well, I tried. Waiting to receive my enterolab kit and see how that goes. Hope everyone is having a good day, m

HI Martha. I'm sure Tex or Polly will chime in, but the Enterolab test is much more accurate then MRT ( but sweet potato isn't tested) because it actually measures the IgA antibodies you are producing to the food. I don't know exactly what is being measured with MRT.

The sweet potato is probably giving you problems because of the sugars and fiber. Even though you are "blowing up like a bullfrog" from them, that might change down the road when your gut is healed. I can eat many things now ( like salad, beans and popcorn) that i couldn't before, simply because there was just too much inflammation for my gut to do it's job efficiently. I always tell people to listen to their bodies. I couldn't do any of the testing but was able to figure it all out by trial and error and "listening".

Hi Martha,

The MRT is sometimes useful for tracking down remaining food sensitivities after we have eliminated the main ones, but it's definitely not a good place to start, because it tends to miss the most important food sensitivities. That's why we always recommend ordering the EnteroLab tests first, and applying those test results, before considering any additional testing.

It's usually helpful to avoid the foods that the MRT flags as "red", or "yellow", but it's not safe to assume that the foods flagged as "green" by the MRT are safe to eat (because many of them are not).

I did MRT and thought I wasted my money, too, because of the all the contradictions. But, as Tex said, it did help to nail down other sensitivities that I was unaware of...like hops, salicylic acid, MSG, & acetaminophen in my case.

It's also useful in guiding you as to where to start when adding a new food (lowest green).

The Enterolab testing will be of great benefit to you! :)

Hi Martha!

I agree with what's already been said. The Enterolab tests are best to start with. Then, after eliminating any reactive foods, the MRT can be used down the road to "tweak" your diet. I didn't do MRT until more than 10 years after eliminating gluten, dairy, soy, yeast, and corn. One thing I have found to be helpful about MRT.......I go back to eating only the lowest greens whenever I sense a flare coming on. It nips it in the bud. It might be helpful to avoid any reds for now. Good luck.

Thank you Polly. Pretty sure I'm gonna be sensitive to everything the Enterolab will test for, but I sure hope not. Gotta eat something. Have a great day :pigtail:
