Many thanks, Joan. I was beginning to have some second thoughts about the wisdom of including my opinion in the book that ridiculed that so-called "diagnosis", but you have just granted me a reprieve.

Up until now, I seemed to be the only one willing to publish such a radical opinion. I'm happy to see that others are also willing to actually put their name on an opinion that the diagnosis of "IBS" is pure fantasy.

I love that he called it a "catchall" "wastebasket" term, as we've described here. This is great too:

Question: Has anyone here had Fecal Elastase-1 testing?

Fecal Elastase-1 should be measured to evaluate the increasingly recognized entity of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.

Does this relate to the protease enzymes that the pancrease is supposed to produce? DPP-IV etc?

Yes, I had the Fecal Elastase-1 testing and mine came in low, so digestive enzymes were suggested. The enzymes seem to help, but I'm not sure how much they are helping because I am still dealing with some MC symptoms.

Interesting. Were particular enzymes suggested? or just a broad based one to cover all the bases? Was DPP-IV or protease specifically mentioned?

yes, I almost had the IBS stamp to go along with my fibromyalgia both are wastebasket terms that really mean it's all in your head. My GI actually apologized to me after the biopsy show mc.
Guess what? On the road to getting my mc under control my fibro and osteoarthritis have disappeared.

Zizzie,

The MD suggested "omega Zyme" by Garden of Life. It does not contain DPP-IV, but it has several protease blends. http://www.gardenoflife.com/Products-fo ... -Zyme.aspx

I have another digestive enzyme, "Digest Spectrum" which has DPP-IV. I'm not sure how much the enzymes help, I'm still trying to sort things out.

Congratulations on getting rid of the fibro and osteo, that's progress!!! My sister in law gave up gluten only and her fibro got much, much better.

Heady, people I know just don't want to believe it. Gal who worked with DH rather take methotrexate for arthritis. A gal with migraines, nope, won't try. DH with his Grover's Disease (rash) nope again...... DH tried for a very short time.

My office manager was diagnosed with pre-diabetes. He saw my transformation in 2012 when I was diagnosed and lost 48lbs. and only took meds for 4mths. I coached him through his 50 lb. weight loss and am so happy for his success. I hear ya that not everyone is a believer. My husband refuses to make a radicle diet change to get off the blood pressure , cholesterol & stomach acid meds. That combination of meds is like a ticking MC time bomb. Rampant diabetes in his fathers family! He figures that since his Mom has been taking these meds for years(she is 92 & still functioning independently) that there is nothing wrong with it. He is 62 yrs. , aches constantly, has sleep apnea, is always exhausted but still isn't willing to give diet a try to experience relief. It really frustrates me.
