Need protein powder recommendation

Post by Chrisdat »

I have MC, and am GF, SF, DF, and EF. In Tex's book he talks about TMJ and MC being related. So true!!! I have Trigeminal Neurolgia, and my TMJ is the worst it's been in 3 years. I can't chew anything right now, and am in a middle of a flare (on Endicort - which is helping). I desperately need some drinkable nutrition. I'm drinking beef bone broth - but would love a protein shake. Still losing about 2 lbs. a week, and getting can't afford any more weight loss.

Can anyone recommend a protein powder that might help?
Diagnosed April 2014, after losing 50 lbs. in 6 months.
Delzicol April 2014 (no effect, after 3.5 weeks-removed)
Endicort April 2014 - helping, but still losing.
Pepto-Bismal 9 a day - May 2014
Thankful for support!

If you can tolerate eggs- egg white protein works. But another great option is grass fed gelatin. You can make lots of things with it and it is a great source of protein. Do you eat fruit?

Have you tried making soup with very finely chopped carrots, rice, celery, chicken or turkey. I make the soup freeze it right away in individual servings. I microwave it and use a stick blender to purée so it is easier to get down. You still get the nutrition you need without having to chew. I am a dental assistant & totally get the discomfort you are having. Do you wear a night guard at night to relieve some of the pressure in the joint? Hopefully you will see some improvement in TMJ swelling and mobility as you progress through your healing. All this takes time and getting the nutrients necessary is sometimes a challenge. Hope this helps! Hang in there.

If you google 'rice protein' I am sure you will see lots of options.

Not sure what brands are available in the USA.
In aus there are 5-6 different brands selling gf/df/sf rice protein.

I use Sunwarrior Blend, which is a gf, sf, df protein. I really like it and have no problem with it...and I enjoy the taste.
http://www.sunwarrior.com/store/ I like the chocolate, but I think it's because I get very little chocolate!
I order it online or get it at The Vitamin Store. Sometimes you can google a promo coupon to help with the cost.

Thanks for the good ideas. I bought ground beef, and am going to make a carrot, celery, zucchini soup with meatballs ( I have a freezer supply of beef bone broth). I'll serve to my family and purée for me.

Baby food is an option for me as well. They have new organic lines with nothing added, and vacuum packed in a no oxygen environment (no histamine development?). Maybe an occasional help when I'm desperate.

Sunwarrier looks interesting. Pea protein? Hemp protein? Normally peas are off-limits. But maybe highly processed will be OK. Their powders do have fiber. But, if you have had luck, I will try.

Rice protein? I react to rice. But not sure it us the protein or fiber. I will also try.

Thankful for this group n

Chris,

I would make my judgment about peas based solely on whether or not I was sensitive to them, because there is no way to remove the peptides in the amino acid chains that cause us to react, by any type of processing, other than high temperature (over roughly 600 degrees F) combustion.

Hi, There is a beef protein called " Carnivor ". If you interested only buy the chocolate because the other flavors are not the best. I mixes well in a shaker cup and has the necessary BCAA's. I buy it online from All-Star Health and the cost is approx $44 for 4lbs. Jon

Chrisdat, if you can find an old-fashioned chiropractor you very well could get help for your TMJ. I have periodic problems with TMJ and casually mentioned that to my chiropractor while seeing him for something else. He assured me that he could help me and he did. If I can get in to see him when the pain first starts, he can stop the progression immediately. If the pain starts on a weekend, it might take a few visits to get it under control.

He has also helped with esophageal spasms. I know it seems unlikely and I was skeptical when he told me that he could help me. Doc is 72 years old and I hope he never retires. He has been a life saver for me when my back goes out, TMJ occurs etc. Not all chiropractors are as knowledgable and you have to be careful. My chiropractor has given me lots of information about leaky gut, diet etc and is usually right on the money.

I use Raw Meal from whole foods and mix it with almond milk and a banana. Read the label though as they are not all cf/sf/gf. I did find one though. Hope that TMJ let's up. Keep us posted.
Everything will be ok in the end, if it's not ok, it's not the end.

I have had good luck with Vega One all-in-one nutritional shake protein powder. When I was trying to gain weight I added a scoop of coconut ice cream to the shake. Also, frozen bananas, strawberries and fish oil.
