Question about Zantec

Post by nerdhume »

I tried Zantec the last 3 days and it has helped with the gassy bloated feeling.
I'm wondering if I should just take it every day or only when I feel like I need it.
I weaned of the omeprazole about a year ago because I didn't want the side effects. Have handled gerd with tums at bedtime since then. Then I started reading about the possibility of LOW stomach acid.
The more I learn the more confused I get

Heartburn is actually caused by low stomach acid because the valve at the end of the esophagus reacts to stomach acid, so high acid makes it shut better. I expect this is what you read. A lot of people experience relief from heartburn/GERD by drinking a little bit of apple cider vinegar to increase stomach acid. I tried this and couldn't stand the taste.

I used to have heartburn 24/7 but one of the unexpected benefits of going GF was that after a while the heartburn went away. I did use Zantac for a while in the early stages. Now I only have heartburn when I accidentally ingest something my gut doesn't like. It's the first symptom of a problem.
