Tex, how do I raise my low secretory IgA level?

Post by mcnomore »

I love it that you are so knowledgeable and I am hoping you can help me with this question. My stool test shows my level is 41.4 and the reference range is 51-204mg/dl

I would like to raise it without any supplements since I don't tolerate them well which is why I turn to you.

Thanks so much

Hi,

Most of the recommendations floating around involve the use of supplements, of course. You've probably already read most of them. One site even recommends cayenne pepper.
Cayenne pepper also has the ability to stimulate B-lymphocytes into manufacturing more SIgA.
Heal digestive problems by balancing secretory IgA

This is a bit outside of my general area of knowledge, but if you want or need to avoid supplements, here's a research report that shows that for patients experiencing a stressful situation, osteopathic manipulative treatments can help to increase secretory IgA levels.

Impact of Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment on Secretory Immunoglobulin A Levels in a Stressed Population

I'm not sure how well this will translate for someone who has MC, but the stress issue certainly is relevant.

You're very welcome,
Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

This weekend I was listening to a podcast episode that mentioned selective IgA deficiency. Here's the link to the podcast and show notes, if you're interested. It's in the Science with Sarah segment that starts around 22:42.

Thank you so much for thinking of me. I guess I have been lucky because I had no real illness until I was 64 when I was diagnosed with mc. I rarely even got the flu or colds or anything except allergies a little.
