question about food
Hello!
I've only been eating 3 meats for quite a while. I did eat lamb a year ago, but cut it because I thought I was reacting to it. I decided to try it again a few days ago. I marinated it with garlic, olive oil, rosemary, salt & pepper, and grilled it. I noticed that my stools, the next day, were softer. I ate it once the following day (I had froze the leftovers) and this morning, my stools were soft again and I was a bit queasy. That sounds like histamine issues to me.
Because the lamb is from Australia, do you think it's a histamine issue? I purchase it fresh vacuum packed at the grocery store.
Or, was it the garlic/rosemary on the meat, as I use a little power garlic sometimes, not usually as much as I marinated this in before it was grilled?
I don't take antihistamines regularly because I don't feel good when I do, I try to minimize the histamine rich foods I consume.
Has anyone experienced a similar reaction? I read that lamb is the most digestible meat, and really crave a new option.

Hi Linda,
Not sure if it's a histamine issue or not but I can NOT do any garlic at all. It was a high red for me on MRT testing and when I've accidentally eaten it (on pickles one time) I had an immediate reaction to it (vomitting) and loose stools for 2 days. I hope for your sake that it's not the lamb.

Linda,
I have a question. Have you been regularly grilling your other meat selections after marinating them with the same garlic, olive oil, rosemary, salt & pepper mix? Or was that a "new" approach with a "new" meat? Did it by chance contain a higher-than-you-are-accustomed-to amount of fat? Additional fat in the diet can cause softer stools, and digestive discomfort/queasiness. IOW, you might need to trim some of the fat.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Just a comment on the grass-fed beef (or other grass-fed proteins, lamb being one of the best). There are places that flash freeze and ship lamb, beef, chicken, etc. to you frozen. For me, since histamines are BIG deal, I ordered some meat and fish over the internet after confirming how quickly they were frozen, and then confirming they would arrive frozen.
For some reason, people love "fresh", meaning defrosted, meats and fish in the grocery stores. But to me, "fresh" packaged or in a meat case - means histamines!

Tex,
I have used the salt, pepper, olive oil in my cooking, but I only use maybe a clove of garlic. This time I used a whole head of garlic to marinate it. The lamb is definitely more fatty than my white meat turkey, haddock, and venison. I don't so well with too much fat so I have always limited it. I did notice some floating fat in the toilet, too that didn't get absorbed....sorry...TMI....
I wonder.....maybe I will try the lamb a different way....chops with just salt & pepper, and see what happens. The chops don't seem to have the fat content that the other portions do.
If that's not it, maybe I will try to find a local source.
Thanks!!!!

Linda,
Are you using fresh sprigs of rosemary? Or dried herb type rosemary.
I can use fresh sprigs in cooking so long as I don't eat any of the leaves.
(Does dried have increase in histamine? )
If you think the increase of animal fat is contributing, trim the pieces, or cook on spaced grill so the fat falls away during cooking.

Gabes,
I used fresh rosemary and I did consume the leaves when eating. I haven't had rosemary since I've been recovering from MC, so maybe that's part of my issue, too. You don't think it's because the meat isn't 'just slaughtered' fresh? I am going to try chops tonight. I'll let you know how it goes.
