Glutened by Pure Encapsulations Enzymes Ultra

Post by mcnomore »

It was pretty clear to me that I was glutened by them so I called the company and this is the response I got:

"Pure Encapsulations enzymes are derived from fermentation, with soy, dairy and wheat as the fermentation medium. However, the fermentation medium is removed when the enzyme is isolated and purified. Additionally, we perform allergen testing on each enzyme to ensure the final products are free from allergens."

What a lot of malarkey or gobbledygook, as my Irish forebearers would have said, as a polite way of saying something less politically correct! That makes absolutely no sense at all! Sounds more like they are trying homeopathy on unsuspectng people than anything else. that won't work in our case!

That's what they all say (every company that uses fermentation as part of their processing) about their GF products. As Jane says, it's "malarkey". They probably have good intentions, but they simply don't know what they are doing. And unfortunately, even the best of intentions do not make up for poor decisions caused by ignorance.

But look at it this way — it certainly proves that what we always say on this board about many of us reacting to extremely small trace amounts of gluten, is absolutely correct. :sigh:

Thankfully, In recent years there are good products that are using safe base ingredients. Rice, ginger etc

Every time I have tried Pure Encapsulations supplements (several times in the past 2 years) I have had a reaction! They work for my husband who doesn't have any food allergies/sensitivities.....but have never worked for me since I was diagnosed with MC.

I've used a number of Pure Encapsulation products without any problems. They tend to use fewer inactive ingredients than most companies but there is no safe company. It all depends on the product you are ordering and your personal sensitivities.

I take their multivitamin without trouble. Makes me wonder what's in the digestive enzymes I've been taking...they are from less reputable manufacturers!
