Brooke- i was thinking of you as I read those pages! hence why within a couple of hours of reading the pages I started the thread! Couldnt wait til the end of the book
as it also says, the normal blood test ordered by doctors does not really give us an accurate guage of the magnesium situation.
I think our posts came in at the same time, in the not too distant future I hope to have a table summary to help everybody pick which mag type / types (you may need a blend) will help them for their issues.
It is a good thing to discuss with the nutritionist. (and they can refer you to functional lab for the better test)

Here is a link to the various forms of transdermal mag. http://www.ancient-minerals.com this link includes their ultra line as well. I've used all of these, and I like the lotion best. I've also just done nightly Epsom salts foot bath soaks, which cost very little. All are effective, it's just a matter of preference. Mag. is absorbed very well through the skin.
There are a number of internet receipts for making your own Mag oil, for very low cost. Also, a lot of people use "non-salt" ice melt, which also a form of mag. that can be absorbed through the skin. They use to make mag oil, or as an Epsom salts replacement. I haven't used this, but it certainly is a cost effective way to try transdermal mag.

That's because the body keeps the blood level of magnesium relatively constant, due to its importance as an electrolyte, and if the dietary intake is inadequate, it pulls magnesium from tissue (cells) all over the body. Magnesium is the fourth most common cation (positively-charged electrolyte) in the body, and the second most abundant intracellular cation, after potassium.Brooke wrote:My bloodwork says my magnesium is normal but I don't buy it.
Since the body tries to maintain a stable blood level of magnesium, if the availability becomes low, the cells may be almost completely depleted of magnesium before the blood level begins to drop. IOW, the body's magnesium supply can become dangerously low, even though the blood level may still be in the normal range. You have to do a tissue test to get an accurate representation of the true magnesium level (in the cells).

Linda,
1-2 cups Epsom salts in a foot bath. Go as high as dissolves easily in the hot water. I use 2 cups, in a small plastic tub.
Use as hot as water as you can. Opens up pores. Feet have larger pores, and can absorb mag. easily. Soak till water cools, pores close. Usually 10 min. or so. Read a book, relax and enjoy.
Best before bedtime as it relaxes you. For me, helps nighttime cramps, which I am plagued with.
Stay warm after Epsom salt soak or bath. In other words, go to bed.
Studies have shown skin absorption is best at night. Circadian rhythms make skin most hydrated at night, so transdermal supplement, or medication rubbed on skin, is most easily absorbed at night.
Epsom salts bath, as much as you want. Every night you can, will help you. I found after about 6 months, I felt much better as far as muscle tension (TMJ), fatigue, and cramping. I still use Mag oil or lotion daily, and when very fatigued (lots of explosive D, and vomiting) an Epsom salts bath really renews me. I think dehydration, nutritional deficiencies, and frequent D, really reduces my mag, sodium, and potassium stores. Salt and potassium are easy to supplement, but mag works best for me transdermally.

on carolyn's website, i think your calm product was on there, as one that she recommends.
like when we first embrace and gain understanding of mast cell/histamine, this is like an iceburg, there is a lot of info under the surface, that is super important.
i have a gut instinct about our cells, the vitamin D receptors and these other key nutrients/minerals are part of the inflammation/immune system haywire response.
in my case include the pyrrole impact and the cells are tainted further.

I have tried dean's ReMag. Note she calls it ionic magnesium and uses terms like Pico magnesium from iONized Magnesium Chloride. She spells iONized with the odd capitalization. ReMag at recommended dose is 150 MG. (from Mag Chloride). That is 42.5% RDA.
I did use half the bottle, and was convinced it probably was not enough. Of course I now have LC, but it did not cause D for me pre-LC. I switched to transdermal, as I wanted a larger dose and conventional mag supplements in recommended dosages did cause some D, even while healthy.
I recommend you go to her website www.rnadrops.com. Look around and be sure you are aware of her other marketing ventures. I did get a lot of spam about her other ventures when I ordered the ReMag. Ultimately, I do think she knows a lot! about mag, but for me, I am not a big fan of proprietary words (iONized - which means something quasi-spiritual when you look at her other stuff) and then adding me to non-ReMag related spam lists for marketing intents. Please know I am referring to Carolyn Dean, Network Holdings co. And not her as a person, it's her company I was uncomfortable with. It's just if I said Network Holdings, you all wouldn't know what I was talking about.
That said, ReMag is legit, so worth a try if you like the idea of low dose drops. There are other ionized liquid mag drops on the market. I've used Trace Minerals (400 MG) Mag drops too. What's nice about them, is they include the full spectrum of naturally occurring minerals that come with Mag in nature. For MC people, it's nice to get some sodium and potassium, as well as other trace minerals in, with a full dose of Mag. It does not taste as good as ReMag. A little tougher to drink in plain water.

Good Suggestion Chris
I was only looking at the products on Carolyns Web site to see the formulation, so I can compare it to the products that are available to me in Aus.
Interestingly, from an Australian IP address, the free ebook is not offered.
So far as spam, not sure what the laws are in the USA, in Aus, if you purchase a product online, unless you tick the box that you are willing to receive newsletters etc, they cant send you emails. All advertising type emails have to provide an easy unsubscribe option.
some websites, have in the small print terms and conditions that you will be registered for newsletters, and you have to go back into your profile on that website to change this if you dont want to receive newsletters.

Gabes, Yes - same here. But for some reason I was added to another list, a list that I couldn't figure out why I was getting some crazy stuff. It was not easy to unsubscribe, but when I finally figured it all out, I realized it was through Network Holdings, which did not ring a bell, until I happened to notice the small print on my bottle of ReMag:) Yes, there may have been a check box I might have missed. It often happens to me these days:)

the check box is the FIRST thing i look for, before I type my details!
earlier this week, some poor uni student working in a call centre (not sure if it was in Aus or India) rang me, turns out my number had been passed to them by an employment agency, I gave him full force rules of the privacy laws etc, that I had not given permission for my number to given to them, remove me from their database or I will call the legislative authority!
when I asked for the contact number for the call centre and his employee number he ended the call!!
(I see this as the good part of pyrrole, there is a scientific reason for me to be a moody, slightly psychotic witch! - I have a pyschotic witch mutation and I am not afraid to use it!!)

Thank you, Gabes. I appreciate all of the information you have gathered together. I've been keeping notes and enjoying the input from others. I bought some magnesium because of annoying leg cramps but chickened out and didn't take it. I'm feeling pretty well and don't want to do anything to trigger D. I love the idea of topical Mag and will investigate that.
I may have to find out more about your pyrrole. There are few things that tick me off more than telephone sales calls. When I get a live one, they get an ear full before they hang up. I also yell in the car when people don't use signals or tailgate. It feels good to vent and no one can hear the crazy lady yelling.
I'm looking forward to hearing more, Gabes. You're the best, mate.

this site, with the backbone principle of sharing valuable information is what saved most of us....
We all care about each other and want our mates to be well, symptom free.
Alot of what we are discussing also applies to our families, we might be able help them avoid the kaos of chronic MC.
I feel a bit like Robert Langdon in the daVinci code, when he decodes the message! I am only just starting to understand the language my body speaks.
