ODAT Remission

Post by nerdhume »

I am reminded of the 'one day at a time' from when I quit smoking 13 years ago.
this morning I am feeling great, full of energy and ready to go.
Norman is definitely back! Hallelujah.

Great news! It's hard to just wait things out sometimes, easier to come to the conclusion that something isn't working. I'm so glad that you were able to do that. Coming off of a drug can be very difficult and often doctors don't seem aware of the problem or maybe just don't think it matter much but the effects of coming off of a drug can easily be mistaken for needing the drug. It is very much like quitting smoking, something I have done too and from which I learned a lot about waiting things out and coming out the other side.

Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I have ever done, even harder than giving up all those foods. And you are right this is similar in some ways, each day gets a little easier, but there is no instant success. I remember wondering if I would always want a cigarette, and the answer is 'sometimes', but I know that would be bad for me. Guess I will always want a donut too  I do regret all the donuts I turned down trying to have a healthy diet over the years.

I occasionally feel an urge for a cigarette too, even though it has been over a decade since I smoked one. What I learned from quitting smoking, how to simply wait out the craving until it passed (and the one after that and the one after that and on and on and on as their frequency gradually diminished) also helped me eliminate foods from my diet, especially fast acting carbs which also caused cravings for me. I too miss the occasional donut, but so be it.

Absolutely, one cigarette would lead back to the addiction and I can refuse the craving because I like being able to breathe
I can resist the donut because I don't like spending the day and night in the bathroom

Wonderful news! You're on the long road to recovery and getting your life back.

I quit smoking twice and it has now been 20+ years since the second time. Every once in a while, I'll get a whiff of cigarette smoke and it smells so GOOD. I would never smoke another cigarette, but the memory remains. I can live without donuts but I apparently can't live without chocolate. Enjoy Life just came out with dark chocolate chips. Yum.

That's great news! Do you think you owe your success to Nortriptyline? (in your signature)

Zizzle I left the Nortriptylin in the sig line because it is the only drug I am still taking. I will be taking it until the 12th when I see the GI.
I'm sure the restricted diet has helped more than anything.
