Confused about Meloxicam (Mobic)
I have started taking Meloxicam for arthritis pain in my back, and my script is the Meloxicam 15 mg TEV. I searched the internet to see if it was GF, and could not find that it was. Although, I did find the Meloxicam APO to be GF. What's the difference?
My Meloxicam script is a square pill that says 93 on one side and 7299 on the other. The bottle does not state the Mfg., so I don't know who to call.
I did start taking the pill, only I cut it in half, so I'm only taking 7.5 instead of a 15 mg. I'm even iffy about taking anything that has ibuprofen, and that's what this is.
But, I have to say, it really helps with the pain of arthritis.
Does anyone know if this will cause more MC problems and if it is GF?
Thanks for any help.

Hi Garina,
The manufacturer is Teva Pharmaceuticals USA. You can find the inactive ingredients listed here:
93 7299 (Meloxicam 15 mg)
If your MC symptoms relapse, it will be necessary to stop taking it immediately.
If I were in your situation, I would double check my diet to try to track down whatever is cross-contaminated with gluten, because something in your diet is almost surely causing your arthritis symptoms.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Tex,
Oh wow, I don't like those ingredients. In thinking about my diet, I don't eat night shades, and I do the gin/raisins, plus cherry juice, all to try and eliminate arthritic pain. Much of the time, it works, but when my upper back became painful, I went for an exam, and she gave me Meloxicam 15 mg.
What I found out from the internet, the 15 mg Meloxicam equals about 8 ibuprofen, which was a shock. So, I take half that, which still is too much ibuprofen. So far, my MC is stable. I have had some setbacks, especially at restaurants, so I rarely eat at restaurants, except if I look it up and they absolutely have a GF menu, but I'm still careful, and I'm grateful for the normans I have.
My arthritis started after being bitten by ticks and was diagnosed with Lyme several years back. Lyme disease is stable (after many antibiotics) from most symptoms, except the arthritis. I have it in both ankles, left knee, left thumb, right two fingers, and now my back. Interestingly, the Meloxicam has helped a great deal with every bit of pain except my back, which is better. Walking helps a lot, also.
If the MC stays stable, I may be able to keep everything in check. The lactose in the Meloxicam bothers me, so we'll see.
Tex, is there anything else I can take that would work for arthritis that you know of that won't upset MC? If not, I will try to cut the Meloxicam in half again (equal to one quarter), and see if that will work.
Thanks.

Garina,
RA is claimed to affect both sides of the body uniformly, so your mixed-sided symptoms probably are due to Lyme disease, as you suspect. Gluten sensitivity can also cause one-sided or non-symmetrical arthritis symptoms, but if you've been diagnosed with Lyme disease, then that's very likely to be the reason for the arthritis symptoms, so diet probably has nothing to do with that.
The only analgesics that are known to be safe for most MC patients are acetaminophen, tramidol, and narcotic-based pain-killers. There are a few natural products that are sold for pain relief, such as Boswellia seratta, but members here who have tried Boswellia haven't had much luck with it. The problem is that there are no labeled doses listed, and the amounts needed for significant pain relief seem to be so large that it becomes prohibitively expensive (if it works at all).
One would think that researchers could figure out a safe pain-killer.
You're very welcome. Sorry that I couldn't be more helpful.

my suggestion is:
Vit D3 - helps reduce inflammation
magnesium - helps pain, helps reduce inflammation, boosts energy, helps clear heavy metal toxicity.
derma application is the best way to avoid any laxative issues if you are D dominate.
In 8 weeks of high doses of magnesium/Vit C/CoQ10 I have been able to halve the amount of pain medication for the fibro pain/headaches, my sleep is improving, muscle twitching has reduced, energy levels are increasing

Tex,
I do have a tube of Boswellia Cream, so I will try that. Yes, you would think that Researchers could figure some of this out. Maybe, this is low priority! I do thank you for your help.
Lesley,
What is LDN?
Gabes,
I do take Vit D3. I will up my dose. If it helps, maybe I can eliminate the Meloxicam or at least decrease it more. I take Magnesium, and so far, it hasn't given me any more D. Thanks very much .
