Magnesium not working for me
I was taking a calcium (Bone-up) with magnesium as oxide and never had a problem. The woman at the health food store said I should not be taking magnesium as oxide if I have D. I stopped then began taking cheleted magnesium, just a half dose and it did not sit well. I waited a few days then began taking calcium hydroxyapatite and and the magnesium lotion and foot baths. Yesterday, I did not have D, but several BM's and some pain today. So I think I am going to wait a few days and go back to the Bone-up. After a week or so, I will try the lotion again. I can't imagine the lotion would be causing a problem.

My initial thought, is the magnesium citrate MC friendly??
For pain to increase it makes me suspect there is a hidden MC nasty in the inactive ingredients.
The oil has been working really for pain /pins and needles.
Better than taking paracetamol.

I've heard that calcium can be constipating, could the Bone-up (Cal+Mag) even out your "response" to taking Magnesium alone?
Just an idea, because truth be told I am not really up to date with supplements.
I hope you get back to baseline soon.

I just ordered some magnesium oil spray on amazon and am hoping it will help with my night leg cramps. It is affordable and worth a try since others have found it helpful. I'm hesitant to add any supplements since it seems like another potential issue I could be adding to my diet. I've also added spinach to my daily menu since it's an easy thing to do and I actually like it.
I had a charlie horse so bad this weekend I thought I was going to go through the roof. I've never had one in which I could feel the muscle tighten and roll on its own. It remained tight and sore for most the day.

Connie, my first reaction is no because during the week I drag around a water bottle at work and drink all day long but on the weekends I'm less careful about hydration. Good reminder, it's worth looking into the basics first.
Most of the time I have no feeling of being thirsty so it's easy to overlook.

Deb,
I had read about the dehydration causing cramps and headaches. I keep a water bottle on my nightstand. If I wake up with cramps or a headache I drink a bunch of it. I was amazed how fast a headache will go away like that. Of course then I have to get up to pee in a little while.
Also of course, the dehydration is less of a problem when the D stops.

Deb, I didn't know that about headaches and water. I will try that, but I had a horrible cramp in my calf muscle this morning too. I have been walking the golf course up and down hills over rough terrain (lol), and I have had sore calf muscles for the past month, I do workout and stretch a lot. I rubbed some of my new magnesium lotion on the area and it helped.
Nancy, you could be right about the calcium balancing out the magnesium. I think I will stick with the Bone-up for now, at least I am getting mag. and can always add the lotion to give me more. At least I hope that's a good idea.
Gabes, I am not sure about the mag. citrate, but will leave well enough alone.

Deb,
My husband just diluted epsom salts in water, and put it in a spray bottle. He sprays that on his wrists and legs twice a day, and it is helping. I've been doing a epsom foot soak each night and it's helping with my night cramping in my legs.

Leah,
Mag lotion on feet, morning and night, especially after shower. I've read pore size is largest on bottom of feet and on your head, so easiest absorption. But, I do wonder about callouses on my feet. So I concentrate on softer areas. I also use on my butt and stomach, as it does not bother me once dressed.
