Controlling Antibiotic-Resistant C. Diff Infections
Hi All,
According to some doctors, as effective as fecal transplants might be at controlling antibiotic-resistant C. diff infections, they may not be necessary. Simply using a combination of sequenced antibiotic treatments and probiotics is claimed to show equally-good results.
“With a STAW regimen, the idea is that if the colon has an antibiotic-free period with intermittent antibiotic dosing, the inactive spores become vegetative and susceptible to antibiotics, and are killed with the next dose,” Bakken said. “At the same time, you provide a continued supply of probiotics to compete with the C. difficile and augment the immune response against it.”

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
This was very interesting. I think a large percentage on this board started their problems with some kind of infection and antibiotics.
I brew my own water kefir daily and IMO drinking the kefir has a better chance of working than the capsules because I am consuming the liquid the bacteria were grown in. I still take 1 VSL #3 per day also. I consider this a large part of my remission.

Donna,
I have 3 glass containers I rotate to have 2 quarts for each day (DH drinks it too).
Day 1: 2 quarts water, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup kefir grains
Day 2: strain out the grains, add 1 lemon cut in half
Day 3: squeeze the lemon, chill and enjoy
You can really use any juice to flavor it. We like the lemonade taste. If you put it in a airtight container you can get 'fizz' also you can have an explosion so I really haven't tried that.
