Why Not try a diet restriction?
I realize this is Crohn's and not MC, but I have read several of these horror stories about all the surgeries, drugs, near death, etc.....not once did this article mention any dietary changes.

In the picture within the story, the cake for her 19th birthday didn't look gluten or dairy free!!!
Yep, very scary that people are ?blinded ?naive ??? to the improvements and wellness available via diet /lifestyle changes.

I blame it on our health case system. Most people want to believe their GI doc when she or he tells them that diet has nothing to do with IBDs (except for celiac disease), and the treatment options offered range from increasingly powerful drugs to surgery, while (as you point out) any benefits from diet changes are downplayed. It's a sad situation.Gabes wrote:Yep, very scary that people are ?blinded ?naive ??? to the improvements and wellness available via diet /lifestyle changes.
Rachel, of Galashiels, Selkirkshire, was diagnosed with Crohn’s after suffering months of stomach pain.
Her symptoms were initially dismissed as everything from growing pains to food poisoning.
As much difficulty as those doctors obviously had while attempting to diagnose such an easily-diagnosed disease, why would anyone be surprised that they also don't know how to effectively treat it.“Because it had taken around six months for me to be diagnosed, the condition had slowly been getting worse which meant treating it was going to be harder.
“The main goal is to get it into remission and keep it in remission but so far, none of the medicine and treatments I have received have worked for me.
Tex
It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
This is the part that really tears me up:
It doesn't mention that she has tried ANY diet changes. At the very least they could have suggested low residue or bland. For crying out loud she was being fed thru a tube, no doubt containing ensure (full of dairy, soy and a whole list of other triggers). The main goal is to get it into remission and keep it in remission but so far, none of the medicine and treatments I have received have worked for me.

On the plus side reading all of those horror stories about UC has kept me determined to stay on the plan.
Apparently most professionals still think MC is just another name for IBS which is NOT taken seriously.
