Old codger back to health without Entocort
Greetings All! I came down with M.C. at the age of 80 in October, 2012, and was diagnosed in December 2012. It was hell, but I started following the FODMAP's diet that same December which helped me tremendously, so I decided not to take the Entocort that the doctor recommended. I ate a diet with a lot of vegetables, some fish and eggs, whole grains, and a bit of fruit. No gluten, dairy or soy, and very little sweeteners. I finally achieved remission after 18 months very slow but steady improvement. I still largely follow the FODMAP's diet with no processed foods, oils, or meat - all whole foods and plant based. One thing I ate quite a bit of when the M.C. was bad, was psyllium which is supposed to help both diarrhea and constipation. Psyllium is a soluble fiber and it smooths out the digestive process, and seems to calm and protect the colon. I think of it as a major component of my healing process. I still use psyllium on my porridge and salads. I just offer this information up in case any of it is of use to anyone.

Glad you are doing well with with your diet and psyllium. I have heard that psyllium is a soluble fiber and that it is effective at absorbing water from the intestine and thus firms up the stool. My mom told me she had an Aunt who had Colitis and psyllium was her go to herb. I've been afraid to try it, I think because it is a 'fiber'. I wish you continued success and thanks for posting.
