Very interesting, Linda. While at that site, did you read also the article on leaky gut repair? Sorry, new computer here, and don't seem to be able to copy and paste it here.

I went to a new doctor last week, (so that I could be with a doctor who has knowledge and treats Pyrrole)
Their patient intake form was 16 pages. A key part of that form was asking about usage history of Nsaids, anti-inflammatories, PPI's, Statins (all the meds discussed here that have long term issues on the gut)
it is a medical practice that treats ADHD/Autism Children (and those on the spectrum with ongoing learning difficulties) adults with multiple autoimmune issues with ongoing symptoms, Adults with ongoing Depression and Anxiety because none of the meds work.
The protocol pretty much the same for all patients
Diet is first priority (gluten and dairy free at at a minimum, low sugar and no preservatives for the kids)
then, lifestyle - minimal processed foods and takeaways, fix leaky gut (they encourage all patients to have home made bone broth),
Supps -Vit D3 and magnesium are first ones that get focus (and in large doses aligned with our learnings here)
Vit D3 testing every 6 months is part of the protocol. (along with many other very relevant tests monitoring B group, Thyroid, iron, Cholesterol, etc) AND they have their own set of ranges they benchmark the results to (again more inline with many of the discussions here)
If patients (or parents of patients) are not willing to make the changes for Diet/lifestyle, then they are told that the symptoms will not improve and in most cases get worse.
Leaky Gut is starting to get some 'credibility' in medical fraternities. Its not just a term used by Naturopaths.

Gabes,
Good for them. Maybe some of the hard-heads in this country will eventually take note of that. I'm not holding my breath though, because most doctors over here are afraid to rock the boat — it might upset the "establishment".

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Tex, I am enthused that some 'get it' and it is progress towards the way the health system should be. Progress not perfection is my motto.
And like other changes in the past 4 years (ie more and more products that are soy free) the need and the demand is there. The doctor was speaking 'mc world' language when she commented about the ranges for blood tests.
Linda, in the lead up I felt like Dorothy on the yellow brick road, if this mysterious wizard of oz would be able to help me.
When I broke down in tears at the relief that I was with some one who gets it, the doctor gave me a hug!
The whole day was a hug from the universe, telling me this is exactly where I am meant to be at this part of the journey. Trust the flow of life.
It will take time for this type of practice to flow and expand.
It was also a reminder that for MC'ers, Informed self care is key to success. Know your body, keep the journals, every symptom means something.
A bit like the Steve jobs speech about life and dots, events may not make sense at the time, later on you can connect the dots.
