Day 2 GF and DF

So, as I believe I have finally gotten sick and tired of feeling sick and tired, I am giving this lifestyle change a try. This is the second day gluten and dairy free. My bloated belly was the first to go and with it the nausea. Shopping for GF foods was challenging but I like to cook so already know what I can do with veggies. I still need to come up with alternatives for bread products. I haven't liked Shaar bread. YUK! so maybe I can find a good recipe. Tonight I grilled eggplant to use for a brat bun. I liked it. The neighbor kindly baked cookies and gave us some....I was upset at first that I could not have any, but it's worth it to gain my health. Here's hoping I have more positive days than negative. Thanks all!

Wow! That was fast. It takes most of us longer to see any substantial improvements. But that's great that you're seeing some benefits already, because a taste of success is always very helpful for motivating us to keep ourselves on track with our treatment.

I hope you continue to feel better and better as your digestive system begins to heal. Please don't be discouraged if you have some bad days once in while, because we all go through those stages, and recovery for most of us always includes a few setbacks. It tales a long time for the digestive system to heal, after years of accumulating damage, but it's the long-term trend that counts, and we are making healing progress even on the days that are not so good, as long as we remain faithful to the diet.

You're off to a good start. Please keep us posted.

I am glad to hear your first experience with success. I, too, had almost immediate success with GF, DF, SF, EF (all showed sensitivity on my enterolab results).
Watch out for the gluten free baked items, not all are gluten free. They can claim that if the amount of gluten is small.
We have 'coffee hour' at my church each Sunday. There are always cookies, donuts, etc. Before dx I would sometimes give in, but not always (now I regret turning down all those donuts). Now when I see those they look like poison to me.
I am not really overweight but for the last several years I had noticed having the pregnant look. A few days into the diet I noticed when I fastened my seatbelt the bulge was gone. After that I began to feel better and lost many of the various symptoms I had for years.
I hope you have continued success and enough motivation to stick to it and regain your health.

So nice to see some immediate improvement! Keep it up. You will find lots of new foods that you like, but as Theresa said, be careful of too many packaged GF products. They can have many ingredients, and not all may agree with you. Read the labels carefully-the fewer ingredients, the better.

Not to say you burst my bubble, Tex, but today was a burst all over. Symptoms back, emotions all over the place, especially after trying one more time to see if GI Dr. would be on board to order a Gluten Sensitivity test for me. His answer, via his uninformed nurse, was to stay on the Apriso indefinitely, and oh by the way.... MC will be with me for the rest of my life. Diet won't cure it. BAM!!! Now it's not cancer, or another horrible disease, but really???!!! Diet may bring some relief if I eliminate the things that seem to bother me, but I might not really know what they may be, since I'm on the medicine. AND....he already tested me for Celiac antibodies and I do not have Celiac, he said. Well...I am on my own here to figure this thing out. Thank God I found you all! Now I mistakenly made scrambled eggs this morning...with milk! oops! And then too much popcorn tonight, and the bloat is back. sigh...

I guess since I'll have the rest of my life to figure out how to eat to feel better, there really isn't any rush. So I'll try to stay on course and see if GF and DF lifestyle will help. I've got a lot more reading to do. And shopping for ingredients to make some bread, GF of course. I miss bread, and cookies, and pasta,...and ice-cream...ok, enough of that.

So sorry you had a bad experience with your dr. I would suggest finding another but unfortunately most of them will tell you the same story.
Also healing is two steps forward and one step back, setbacks are just part of it. Sometimes it will be accidental, like you forgot and put milk in the eggs. Sometimes something you have been using a while will change ingredients.
Popcorn is one thing I couldn't tolerate when I was flaring. I could actually feel that scratchy stuff moving through my intestines and wondered how long the pain of it would last before it made the whole journey. I haven't tried eating it again, now that I am in remission it might be ok, but that experience is still in my head :shock:
Hang in there, you will begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm sorry you've had a setback. There will be many ups and downs along the way. Not sure if it's already been suggested, but you should keep your fiber low-no raw veggies and fruits. Stick to well cooked vegetables. Some of us have difficulty with corn. Ice cream was my favorite, and I found a good one made with coconut milk. I have a little bit most nights.
