Recently on a post that I cannot find now you said that when you were drinking water kefir you had normal BM's. My question is why are you not continuing to drink it? and what is the recipe that you use? I went to our local hfs and they do not have the crystals to make it and there are endless recipes on the internet. Where did you get your starter crystals?

Hi Pat,
Here is my original thread about my water kefir journey. I ordered my grains from Keysands.com. The normans started within weeks and promptly disappeared about 7 days after I stopped drinking it. I stopped because I was going to NIH for a 3-day research study and didn't want to skew any results. I also had a urine test that suggested SIBO, and I have to be off probiotics for a few weeks to get an accurate test result. I should have completed the darn test by now, but it requires you to be on a virtually fiber-free diet for 36 hours before the test, and I'm enjoying too much fruit and summer vegetables! I've started my 36 hours today and will be getting my kefir grains of out hibernation in the fridge this week. I also may supplement with fermented saurkraut too.

Keep in mind I was on 10 mgs prednisone when I started, which probably masked any histamine reactions to the fermented sugar water. I'm on 5 mgs now, which is considered a replacement cortisol dose, so we'll see how I react the second time around.

Thanks for the link Zizzle, I had not read that thread before.
I swear by VSL #3 probiotics and water kefir. I squeeze a lemon in mine and have lemonade.
I have noticed NO odor from normans. This makes me think most of the 'bad' bacteria have been replaced with 'good'.
I read that 60% of the bm is made up of bacteria!
I currently feel better than I have in many years. Off all meds except 50 MG Nortriptyline at bedtime.

The new doctor I saw last week, where healing leaky gut is key to so many health issues, said that single strain pre-biotic, pro-biotic, digest enzyme worked far far better than the products with multi strains.
Staged approached over long period of time.

Pro-biotic -Sb boulardi
http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDN60801 ... 4776.shtml

This is the first pro biotic I have been able to use since my mc Dx 4.5years ago.
I have tried many, tried quarter and half doses at various times no luck.

Most the practitioners focussing on healing leaky gut are using this form.

In my case the higher doses of magnesium and Vit C was working their magic on the histamine inflammation when I started the sb boulardi

FYI, S. boulardi is a yeast, not a bacteria. I tolerate it well too.

Donna,
This is a link to a previous discussion:
http://www.perskyfarms.com/phpBB2/viewt ... ht=#157737

I bought my grains in April from KefirLife on ebay. I have given away grains several times, they keep multiplying!
