The epidemiological study followed 30,000 women for over 20 years and “showed that mortality was about double in women who avoided sun exposure compared to the highest exposure group.”
Researchers concluded that the conventional dogma, which advises avoiding the sun at all costs and slathering on sunscreen to minimize sun exposure, is doing more harm than actual good.
That’s because overall sun avoidance combined with wearing sunscreen effectively blocks the body’s ability to produce vitamin D3 from the sun’s UVB rays, which is by far the best form of vitamin D.

Deb,
Thanks for the tip. I was able to locate the original research article (link below), which will be useful as a reference in a book I'm working on. This is just one more example of many, many instances of iatrogenic medical/pharmaceutical advice that has now been debunked.
Avoidance of sun exposure is a risk factor for all-cause mortality: results from the Melanoma in Southern Sweden cohort
Many thanks,
Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
The title (unless I decide to change it before publishing it) is Vitamin D and Autoimmunity. Obviously cancer is not classified as an autoimmune disease (although it seems to me that it may be a symptom of autoimmune disease), but I needed a chapter that discussed a few of the other reasons why it's important to keep our vitamin D level out of the deficient and insufficient ranges, and that research report fits right in.
Thanks again.

Great news, Tex!
I am re-reading your book "Microscopic Colitis," specifically the chapter on Stress. I get more out of it each time I read it.

Can't wait to add it to my library of health info that is actually useful!
