Hi friends!
Here's an article for us to read. Some of us already know the connection...

Article on MC and Histamine
Diagnosed 2011 with LC. Currently on Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN)
Hi Monique,
Thanks for posting about this apparent enigma. I don't get it.
When I look at table 6, the patients who are claimed to have this "new" disease (allergic mastocytic gastroenteritis), clearly meet the diagnostic criteria for mastocytic enterocolitis. How can these guys arbitrarily decide to call it something besides mastocyteric enterocolitis. Furthermore, the suggested treatment appears to be the same as the treatment that works for ME. What's going on here?
There is no upper limit to a diagnostic mast cell count for ME. Just what is unique about AMG, that justifies calling it a "new and unique" disease? I don't see anything unique about it, so obviously I'm overlooking something. Maybe I'm going blind, or I'm just misreading the article.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Tex,
I just looked at that chart again -- they are differentiated by the markers or by the amount of mast cells. Is that the reason they are called by a different name even though the symptoms are the same? (Just speculating here -- sort of like type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Same symptoms but two completely different conditions)
Love,
Monique

Hi Monique,
If there is a good reason why it should be classified as a separate and distinct disease, they did a good job of hiding it, because I completely overlooked it. Like LC, there is a lower limit, but not an upper limit for such diagnostic markers. IOW, more than 40 mast cells per high-power field on biopsy analysis meets the diagnostic criteria for ME just fine.
It appears that those researchers might simply be trying to grab some "cheap" fame for themselves by trying to reinvent the wheel. Or, maybe I'm just confused.
Love,
