Lialda- anyone?

I've been Rx lialda and wanted to see others experience with it? Thanks you!

I'll be tagging along because I just heard from my doc and he is calling me in a prescription for a new med: Lialda. I'm off to go read and research all I can about it now.

What is it with the GIs pushing this drug? Deb also mentioned her GI is stalking her about Lialda. Virtually out of nowhere. My GI can't stand me, so if I hear from him about it, we'll know it's a conspiracy.

I guess I'm just biased to think that if they're pushing it like this, there must be incentive.

My GI tried that first. After 2 weeks we decided it was not helping (and might be hurting) so went to Uceris.

I'll bet a GF cookie that the drug reps are promoting the drug with all-expense-paid seminars in the Bahamas, lucrative research grants (that don't actually require any research), or something similar, in order to "inspire" interest in the drug.

Uceris is another relatively new drug that they're surely promoting. (After all, if the drug companies don't promote them, doctors will tend to continue to prescribe the same old medications that they have routinely been favoring.

Well, I can't accuse my doc of pushing this on me....I contacted him and said "I'm not liking Entocort this time, is there anything else I can try?" and this is what he called in. I was actually thrilled that he was letting me try one of the new products.... you never know how it will affect you until you try it. I don't have high hopes for it, but I can at least then put it on the list of things I've tried. Haven't started it yet.... need to do more research first.

Best wishes Sue, I'm sorry Entocort didn't help you, and wasn't trying to undermine your post. Try and try again. I think Lialda is Mesalamine? There are some people here who take that so maybe they'll chime in.

Nancy, no worries, you didn't undermine it at all! Actually Entocort DOES work for me, but it messes with my thyroid med. Asacol was a wonder drug for me for many years but the last time I tried it, it made things worse. I'm guessing that will happen with Lialda, too, but you never know till you try, right?

I was on Lialda for 3 years until I recently went on LDN. Did very well on lialda (3 a day) but was concerned about my elevated liver enzymes since I started taking them. LDN has been godsent.

I took Lialda too for a short period of time. It's worth a shot. My GI prescribed it after budesonide stopped working the second time. It seemed to help a little but was not the lifesaver Entorcort was.

I didn't take lialdia, but I took another brand, due to insurance. Helped me much more than entocort. 2 weeks on it, I was almost normal.

I've taken 2 pills a day for three days now and I hope I'm not just being overly optimistic but I think it's working! I'm going to stop the Entocort tomorrow (making me too anxious) and see what Lialda can do all by itself.

Wondering how the original poster is doing with Lialda. I've been on it one week and the results are amazing...... I'm already seeing Norman! Guess it's time to lower the dosage soon and see if that works, too.

Glad to hear you are having good results.

My GI hasn't given up on me yet. I'm still getting calls.

I was offered FREE samples. Tex I think you are right! I called the nurse back and said I don't wish to change my meds at this time. I'm still working on getting my thyroid meds dosed correctly so I don't want to add any more changes to my life right now. Haven't heard the final comments yet- playing telephone tag.

I have nothing against it nor any experience taking this brand- if it works then it may be worth a try.

I have been on Lialda for 4 years and it controlled my symptoms very well through a pregnancy and breastfeeding, even. Recently, my symptoms have returned though. I'm not sure why. Possibly because I'm pregnant again. I've been going 5 to 6 times a day again for about a week so I'm seeing my GI next week to see what he thinks.

So far, I haven't had a problem with my liver enzymes, but yes, it is a slight risk in terms of side effects.
