This reads like an urban legend, but can it be true?? Could we all be infected with rope worms?

Hmmmm. I'm not saying that they don't exist, but if they do, why hasn't such an important discovery been published somewhere in a prestigious, peer-reviewed medical journal?
And most importantly, why haven't they prevented everyone in the world who has an IBD, from having an IBD, or at least suppressed the IBD symptoms. Could it be that we are the only ones in the world who do not have "rope worms".
The primary reference (number 1) in the first article that you cited, is about cancer (not helminths), and all of the other references are about helminths and their effects, in general. I don't see any specific references to the alleged "new" "rope" helminths, at least in the titles of the references. The PDF mentions them, but it does not even contain a date. Where's the beef?
That said, the arXiv.org site (where the pdf is hosted) is a legitimate repository of electronic preprints of scientific papers. So maybe they were only discovered yesterday, after supper, and official publication is in the works somewhere.
Thanks for the links, I was eating lunch when I read this, and it kept me from overeating, especially when I got to the part about the rope helminths having such a vile odor after they are washed and cleaned. If they smell worse then feces, they must be real humdingers. I'm guessing that this characteristic will prevent them from ever becoming popular as pets.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
I have previously thought all those 'colon cleanse' things were nonsense. Especially the ones that claim you can lose 5pounds in one day (I know that's possible with WD).
Now I am not so quick to dismiss things. Lots of people think GF is a fad too.

I was wondering if this was advertising for the growing enema/colinics/fasting/fear of parasites industry. I suspect someone is making lots of money on colon cleansers nowadays. For some reason I feel like the D of MC is enough to keep worms out of our systems, but who knows?
