Hi Innes,
I joined the group a few days ago. My daughter was just diagnosed and she's 20 years old. She's had loose bowel movements all her life and no doctor, no test could ever bring us any diagnosis. Until last week when the biopsy came back positive for MC.
I've ordered the Enterolab stool test and we'll go from there. When she was 7 or 8 we tried a few days with cooked rice, carrots and lamb, that's it. She got perfect BMs. But she lost so much weight and got so depressed that we reintroduced most foods. We may have to go back to being very strict, we shall see. At least now she's old enough that she wants to do it herself.
We'll do this together. Please keep us posted. It's actually helpful to read how little success you're having with the meds (even though I'm really sorry it's not working better). Our GI specialist also told us this condition was highly treatable. but it's not, is it? So we're going to find what works and get into remission. All the best to you!! ♥

Welcome Veronica,
I noticed that you are on the SCD, if it is working for you that is great!
I was also on the SCD for several years, but could not get my symptoms under control. After I did testing with Enterolab, I found out I was sensitive to dairy, eggs and almonds, which were a large part of my diet. Just a thought if you are in need of more dietary modifications.

I too used to follow SCD but it did not work for me. It made things better initially but eventually things got much worse. That's when I found this forum, eliminated not only gluten but all dairy (no SCD yogurt) soy and eggs. Then I did the Enterolab testing and discovered that chicken and beef had to go too, so no SCD chicken soup although I make other kinds of bone broth. For me, SCD got me used to the idea of diet change as a means to good health. As a result the additional changes I found I needed to make when I joined this forum were not so daunting. I now follow a strictly paleo diet that is low carb.dfpowell wrote:Welcome Veronica,

Hi Innes :) I too am a young woman with MC. I was 21 when I got my diagnosis a little over a year ago. From my understanding when first diagnosed I was also under the impression that it was only people who were 50+ years old who got diagnosed with MC. However like Tex said doctors can be clueless and often look over younger people when it comes to MC. The elimination diet is the way to go and honestly although we are not doctors on here... I would highly suggest getting follow up advice if you have any problems/questions. Anyone on here can tell you doctors are not nearly educated enough when it comes to MC. They will often push medications and diss the elimination diet Entocort will ease your symptoms while you recover with your elimination diet and that is ultimately what will heal you. Congrats on your wedding also!

I suffered from constipation all my life. I remember my mom forcing me to take castor oil and other things when I was about 6-7. When the laxatives wouldn't work she would resort to enemas. I continued to be plagued as an adult. I would have to take laxatives or force myself to eat lots of fiber. I just thought it was how my system worked. About the last 20 years I had maintained a very high fiber diet that produced a BM each morning like clockwork. Imagine my surprise when all of a sudden I had non stop WD.
I also have always hated and avoided milk. When I was young it would make me throw up. I have only ever used it on cereal or in recipes. In my adult life I avoided most dairy because of the fat and calories. This leads me to believe I have probably been reacting to dairy all my life.
I have wondered if many of us were born with MC and it just takes a while to get out of control. Or is triggered by an event. My daughter was just diagnosed and she's 20 years old.
