S. Boulardii is recommended when you're taking an antibiotic. It is actually a yeast, not bacteria. It is the only probiotic I've ever taken and I had no problems when I took it.
I'm sure you'll get more suggestions. So sorry you're dealing with a miserable UTI.

To get something you never had, you have to do something you never did.

I have been taking S Boulardii, and had no issues....
not sure if the reduced inflammation and histamines in check is part of why I am tolerating it AOK
Also - that it is single strain approach
previous attempts at other pre/pro biotics did not work out
Have you read some of the recent posts I put up about magnesium? magnesium would help the UTI / inflammation. Doing the magnesium oil via the skin will not cause any laxative effect. (would also help with the MTHFR gene mutation issues)

I am going to dr tmrw for a UTI, and will need to go on an antibiotic. Luckily, it's not a bad one. I've been taking big doses of D-Mannose the last 3 days, and it's not working. I know it's been recommended to take a probiotic for a couple of weeks, on completing an antibiotic, however is that the same with S Boulardii? Would I start it on completion, or throughout?

quick google search supports notion of helping. Below...
Many practitioners (nutritiontists, naturopaths, immunologist of wholistic basis) helping patients to heal leaky gut (not just IBD related) are finding it is more useful than other pro-biotics, and multi strain biotics.

SACCHAROMYCES BOULARDII OVERVIEW INFORMATION
Saccharomyces boulardii is a yeast, which is a type of fungus. Saccharomyces boulardii was previously identified as a unique species of yeast, but is now believed to be a strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (baker's yeast). Saccharomyces boulardii is used as medicine.
Saccharomyces boulardii is used for treating and preventing diarrhea, including infectious types such as rotaviral diarrhea in children, diarrhea caused by gastrointestinal (GI) take-over (overgrowth) by “bad” bacteria in adults, traveler's diarrhea, and diarrhea associated with tube feedings. It is also used to prevent and treat diarrhea caused by the use of antibiotics.
Saccharomyces boulardii is also used for general digestion problems, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel syndrome (IBD, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis), Lyme disease, a bowel disorder called relapsing Clostridium difficilecolitis, and bacterial overgrowth in short bowel syndrome.
Some people use Saccharomyces boulardii for lactose intolerance, urinary tract infections (UTIs), vaginal yeast infections, high cholesterol levels, hives, fever blisters, canker sores, and teen-age acne.
How does it work?
Saccharomyces boulardii is called a "probiotic," a friendly organism that helps to fight off disease-causing organisms in the gut such as bacteria and yeast.

I too just got diagnosed with another UTI as well. I just finished my antibiotics a little over a week ago and was feeling fine until I woke up this morning in extreme pain and blood in my urine. A trip to the ER confirmed what I already knew and now I am too on Bactrim. S Boulardi is suggested during antibiotic use because like others have said it is a yeast and therefore not killed by the antibiotic. Unfortunately for me my local pharmacies don't seem to carry it and I do not have the money to special order it or find it at a specialty store. So I just bought a 5 strain probiotic formulated for those on antibiotics. Luckily it is dairy, soy and gluten free so I am praying that I will do just fine with it.
UTI's are awful :(

you may not be able to afford it at the moment, for future this one is reasonably priced. Not sure if it has any MC type nasties in the inactive ingredients
the good thing about Boullardi compared to other Probiotics, it doesnt need the nasties to keep it stable
http://www.amazon.com/Jarrow-Formulas-S ... =Boullardi
Hope the product you are using is helping
