Reaction to magnesium

Post by Grahm »

 I rubbed the magnesium oil on my legs and stomach before turning in last night.
Five minutes later I knew I was in trouble, it burned and then later itched terrible. It went from bad to worse. I took a Benadryl immediately and then another one at 1:30 this morning. Has this happened to anyone else?

I bought this from a health food store. It's from Life-Flo, pure magnesium oil (magnesium chloride brine). From the ancient Zechstein Seabed. It says it is 100% pure Super concentrated solution (therein might be my problem). No other ingredients.
Thanks,
Connie

Hi Connie,

Bummer! But yes, other members have complained of concentrated forms causing a burning sensation. That one sounds mighty potent.

I can handle the mag oil on my stomach, but not on my legs. It's unbearable on the legs!

And I rinse it off after 20 minutes.

I went ahead and bout Natural Calm, mag citrate, and I'm taking very small doses throughout the day. I have to keep it small because too much and I have a problem.

Someone previously mentioned using it as deodorant. I couldn't believe how badly it burned under my arms, also my legs...maybe because of shaving? I put it on my arms and stomach each morning. Usually leave it on 30 minutes or more before my shower.

My current recipe here:

I have also had good luck taking Magnesium Citrate at bedtime. It helps me sleep and hasn't had the laxative effect.

Magnesium Glycinate is easier to tolerate for those of us who have D issues. This was recommended by the naturopathic Dr. I have seen, and I am up to 500 mg /day without any change in GI issues. I purchased it at a health food store.

A Gabes pondering...

I wonder if the body is telling us where it needs the magnesium the most?

Stomach needs it more than the legs...

That IS an interesting thought, Gabes. I shave my legs and have very sensitive skin, so I was actually wondering why my magnesium oil (Life-Flo brand, the one folks are having trouble with) ISN'T stinging/burning at all, and guess what? I use it for calf and foot cramps! Hmmmm...

I take magnesium citrate supplements (400 mg/day, divided doses, no digestive issues with it) which had resolved my nighttime calf-foot cramps for a time, then seemed to stop working. Got the oil per the recommendations on this forum and...no more cramps.
