Hi all,
I started the generic for Entocort on June 13. I quickly discovered that 9 mg was too much. I tapered it down to 6 mg with no problems. On June 16, I reduced it to 3 mg. Still no problems. Last week, I tapered down to 3mg every other day.
Wish me luck. I see the Gastro MD on Thursday. If I had of done it his way, I would be totally out of Budesonide by now. As it turns out, I will be totally finished with the treatment, November 25. I will have a few meds left.
The only issues I have noted since beginning the Budesonide include the following: 1. Colds every couple of weeks. I have been able to zap them each time in a day by sucking generic Cold Ez, and taking oscillococcinum. 2. leg and toe cramps that wake me up from sleep and which make my legs ache the next day. I have improved this issue by eating 1/2 a banana each day and by using magnesium gel.
I have lost 4 lbs since starting on Budesonide Hooray!
I sent a copy of Wayne's book to the Gastro MD. I hope he read it.
I was also diagnosed with Barrett's Esophagus. The Gastro MD insisted I take Prilosec. I took it 6 weeks but stopped it because of the leg cramps. I attended a seminar on GI Health that my Holistic MD conducted. I discovered that PPIs can cause pneumonia in folks my age, plus osteoporosis (which I have) and a number of other nasties. The FDA only approved their usage for 2 weeks. My Holistic MD said she would not take PPIs if she was diagnosed with Barrett's. She provided me a program guide for GI Health. The plan is to treat this condition with diet. It is fascinating to me that the food choices do NOT include dairy, gluten, oats, sugar. Here is the program guide: https://centreforneuroskills.mymetageni ... _final.pdf

FWIW, I agree with your holistic MD on the PPIs. IMO, they're about as iatrogenic as a med can be.
Good luck with the appointment and the rest of your treatment program, and thanks for the update.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
